i just bought myself a delica ; in my opinion one of the quintessential spydercos to own. anyway i wanted to know how old it is? It has ; locking dent , frn handle , and a partially serrated vg10 blade. thanks

Hi SirGalant, I think it's probably a Delica 3 if it's not one of the new Delica 4's. I think it goes: Delica 1: Stainless handle, Delica 2: FRN with FRN clip, Delica 3:FRN with steel clip revised handle, Delica 4: modified blade shape, with steel reinforced FRN handle and shaped steel clip.

If I remeber correctly, the Delica 2 ended production around '94. The Delica 3 has run from then until just recently. The Boyle dent apperated sometime during this run. I don't remember if it was there in the beginning. The Delica 4is new, and in VG10. The blade steel may be the key to finding the date, but I don't have a chart or anything. I've seen Delicas in all sorts of steels, I'm sure there's a chronological order to it. I have a relatively new Stainless Delica in VG10 and my new Endura 4 is in VG10, so that appears to be the current general production steel. My guess would be that your knife is pretty recent. Just a couple of years old.

I could be wrong, though. I'm sure there's somebody out there who knows everything there is to know about the steels. There's probably a chart squirreled away in a thread somewhere on this forum. Somebody please corrrect me if I'm being stupid.

Post a pic. By the markings, number of clip holes, colour, it should be easy to tell the exact model. In fact, if it came with the original box, the exact model designation will be there.

the clip is steel and there are no liners . the handle has a circle with delica clipit written on it , the box says c11psbk delica . i don`t know how to post pictures.
