Ever since selling my old Camp Tramp I've been wanting to get something to replace it and have a couple of times but nothing was quite up to the level I was used to after having that one. I rarely have need for a fixed blade but do like to have just one bigger one on hand for when I do want it. This is it for me. My one and only big fixed blade. I never should have sold that SR Camp Tramp knife and when I think about what I let it go for it almost makes me sick, espcecially when I see what they bring now. This one makes that a lot easier to deal with now though.

Anyway, my new DogFather arrived in the mail the other day. Wow! Much bigger than I imagined. This thing is like one third machete, one third bowie knife and still one third of something else I haven't quite put my finger on yet. Since I didn't get the sheath I sat down to make my own on Sunday. I get my scraps free and for very little money from a saddlery store that does the rodeo stuff here local so there are some blemishes on it but its not bad. Had to use some thick scraps to secure this monstrous blade though. I do all my work by hand so its not like I have a machine. Broke two needles doing this long sheath and only poked myself twice. I'm so proud. Only needed one bandaid through the whole chore.

Don't laugh, its a user but it does the job.

I sure like the knife. The handle is superb on these and the blade has lots of that tip heavy thing going for it. Went through a big black jack oak log in no time flat after snapping these pictures and what little scratches formed wiped off. Amazing coating for such a first bashing.

Nice, congrats! Scrapyard is putting out some very nice knives. I'm actually waiting on my first piece of INFI, a SS4 I nabbed from Walking Man. Can't wait for it to get here.

..And I like the sheath

Great score -- It'll do what your CT did and more!!!

Nice sheath too

I too am very impressed with the dogfather but did not get the factory sheath with it. Any of you who did, do you like it?? I was going to get a semperparatus drop leg made for it. I want a cargo pocket on the sheath to be big enough for a small survival kit + a little something else. The factory sheath appears to only be big enough for a good sized folder. Am I correct on this because I am only going by pictures posted by others??? What do you guys think?? I wish I had the skills to make my own but I don't think I'll try it at this juncture. J

My Dogfather has not even shipped yet and then it will take a couple of weeks to get here. It burns my biscuits seeing you guys having fun with your DF's already.

The coating on my SS4 is very impressive. I have batoned her through hard dry
wood a half dozen times and it did put several scratches on it but they did not go all the way through to the steel.

There is a thread at the scrapyard forum where I asked people to show some pics of the stock sheath. They were nice enough to post some good pics where you can really get a good look at the sheath. It looks pretty good for 19.95$ I know a few FBM owners picked some up. It is no Sec ops but seems
decent and after seeing the pics I am glad I ordered one.

Thanks for the compliments. I can't say any of you will be disappointed but since most of you already have had a taste of what you get from the guys responsible for building these knives you already know how great they are.

I find it interesting that I have read several comments that were less than high praise for S7 steel. After using this one and reading the reviews I have to wonder why. It seems fine to me in everyway. I understand this is more like an S7 steel on steroids whatever that means so I guess its some proprietary mixture like Busse is famous for in his steels?? Whatever, I am currently reading all I can find on why S7 is a steel some don't want to give the time of day to. What do you guys know?
