OK, this is a self indulgent post, but I just had to tell somebody who'd appreciate it: I went out and bought a brand new Maxion precision drill press. Made in Germany quality with a fantastic precision chuck.

This sucker is 100% accuarte. I just counter sunk my first grip and man was that a pleasure after the way I been doing it.

I love machines!

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

I knew you guys would appreciate it! :-) My girlfriend just said something like, "That thing cost HOW much money?"

I bought this machine from Scheidt KG here in Berlin. But I just checked and the manufacturer has a website:
www.ixion.de

that also is in english. They also show a US rep under:

IXION AUERBACH INC.
235 Commerce Blvd.
Statesville

North Carolina 28625, USA

tel.:+1-704 / 838 13 00
fax.:+1-704 / 838 08 12
e-mail: ixion.usa@conninc.com

The machine I have is the BT 13W with a keyless Röhm chuck. With tax, title and whatever the machine was a bit over DM 2100.–. So that means I gotta keep sellin some knives!

Tom,

Noël Coward once said the only thing a playwrite must never do to an audience is, " ...bore the living Hell out of it."

Did you machinist friend ever write for the Theatre? :-)

I am jealous I am using a old buffalo that the start winding are bad in. I have to start it by hand. Which is real fun NOT ;0

sorry.....didnt mean to rain on your parade, i love tools too...and i would certainly be very happy to have a press like yours.... but early on i wanted to get a jig borer and was asking the guy and he told me that... to get an accurate hole you have to clamp the blade on your faceplate on your lathe... that is WAY too much trouble for me....but for some of the guys like ron lake, jack busfield etc they might just do that... have fun and when you get tired of it ill buy it from you for a reduced rate....lol...tom

Tom,

no offense taken! I didn't even see the rain. I saw it as humor.

I used to hear it from the foreman when I was an auto mechanic if I ever forgot and refered to a car's having a "motor." The foreman would flip out and say something like, "...your rubber ducky might have a 'motor' but automobile has an ENGINE." I've toned his comment down a lot for publication here. :-)
