Finally picked up a "plain jane" large Regular I can call my own. I missed out on a couple in the classifieds here but a member reached out to me with a knife that I couldnt say no to. The knife had just been returned from Spa treatment where CRK couldnt fix a gritty action because of corrosion on the blade. I figured, a large Regular is like a pizza, no matter what you do, its hard to screw it up... so I jumped at the opportunity.

Knife is in my possession today and the first thing I did was take it apart to inspect (and remove lanyard).

It seems the problem lies in the corrosion thats on the blade as it relates to the detent ball. I'm wondering if I cant just take a polishing wheel to the blade and see what happens?

Overall, like I imagined, its gritty but still "smooth" if that makes any sense. Its gonna be receiving a new style pocket clip and riding in my pocket for the foreseable future :)

Any suggestions or thoughts on the topic would be appreciated.

I'd take some steel wool and clean it by hand to ensure you don't take too much unnecessary metal off. Then, check to see if there is pitting. Hopefully, it's just surface rust, you should be good. If it's pitting, then try one of the methods in the video to rid the rust from the pits.

Has anyone ver black oxide coated a CRK folder? I've had the finish applied to a different knife and that knife came out smoother after the work was done. Certainly prevented any corrosion and looked very nice.

Tried googling for pictures but no luck.

First congrats on getting a large Regular!! And as always some great help form members. Nothing quite like this place.
