Some of you guys know Bill, username bacustomknives here on the forum. I think most will agree that he makes a real nice knife at really reasonable prices.

VERY nice looking knife. The wood sort of looks like bacote or walnut? Being "Burl Source" shouldn't it be burl:D

It looks like a handy EDC! Nice looking sheath also.

I just sent him some wood and said make me something I'll like. He knew just what to make for me. I think it is one of his new blade shapes and I like it a lot. Even though it looks pretty Bill made me promise to use it, not just put it on a shelf to look at. The wood is Ebony.

That is a beautiful piece..... Ridiculously beautiful.

Ebony though ? I have seen so many woods labled ebony , the ebony I have is black as night aside from the very occassional light- blondish streak , smells like frankincense when you work it.
Whatever it is , it is stunnig.

That's great!! I'm confident that Bill's philosophy will hold true -- "THE BEAUTY OF A KNIFE IS ONE THING,THE USEFULNESS IS EVERYTHING!! " Make sure you keep us posted on her performance.

One of my suppliers in Laos sent me 2 sample pieces of ebony like this. One was labeled Mai Mun Ebony, the other was labeled black & pink Ebony. They both looked like the same wood to me and both looked a lot like this.

Bill told me to use it so that's what I am going to do. I don't mean just opening boxes either.

Super nice knife. I like the ebony.

Tostig, the name "ebony" covers pretty much anything in the diospyros genus. Many have black heartwood, but not all do (though they do tend to at least have black streaks). There are a lot of Asian species and it's hard to identify them for sure. Based on what Mark said, this one is probably Diospyros Mun.

I like how the edge leaves the handle. And also the top swedge. It's a knife with flair.
I'm quite fond of carrying a small fixed blade instead of a folder, (although I often do carry a folder) as it makes me feel more like a caveman.
