Well, now that I have so much more experience heat treating the 0-1 I use it was time to make myself a new EDC so I can see how my heat treat performs(other than the tests I do to check proper temper).
I fit this in between the other orders just for myself. It was my father to be gift ;)
Let me know what you think. I wish I had 1/4" micarta but the 3/8" does allow for more curves.

Looks great Brian, I like how the micarta pattern looks around that center mosaic pin. I notice you omitted the thong hole this time, I love it on mine but I figure it's less important on a smaller knife. Good work, keep it up!

:D Thats good David :D Just had this in progress for a while.....back to sheaths this weekend. Ugh!! :p

One of the reasons, aside from workmanship, that your knives have gotten my attention is that they have a very distinct style. What/who are some influences?

I love Charles Sauers work. HE was the first maker that helped me work on my Heat treating. I also oogled over David Becks work when I was sketching.

Really, its hard to name one influence. I tend to like someone who makes things I cant. I love Raymond Richards work. Total forge and hidden tang knives.

I'll have to make a list of makers who I look at alot one day. :D
The list is hard to narrow down :D

You named Ricky Fowler as an influence at one point, not for borrowing design but just to start knifemaking. Hopefully some day I'll be saying that about you :D The width of your Companion blades extending past the handle must really increase the utility/light chopping ability.

Duh! Ricky Fowlers camp knife was the first knife I was like...Man - I want to make that!

I got to meeet him at Blade this year and look at his knives. I didnt tell him I knew who he was. Very nice man.

Your too kind Needle ;)

I love that little blade ! What are the dimensions ? :)

blade is 1 5/16" at the widest point. 2.75" cutting edge. Not too bulky to get in the way.

I like how the small copper mosaics stand out against the micarta too. Plesant surprise ;)

great little sidekick Brian. I really like the 3 mosaic pin treatment at the heel. I can attest to the wonderful performance of your "old" heat treat - sure would like to hear about the "new" results.

so far this EDC is holding it edge nice! Did some roap cutting and still shaves so its making me smile :D

Brian, my friend---reading between the lines, I see you are heading for that wonderful situation known as "PARENT" May this be as rewarding to you and your wife as it was (and is) to my wife and me. Our two girls are approaching 47 and 50 years of establishing us as parents and what a marvelous half century it has been! You make a fine knife, that we all know. I am sure that the cooperative endeavour involving you and your wife will produce superlative children---Congratulations!!!!! ---Sandy---
