I finally got my new Emerson today. I’ll admit that I was excited and also a bit nervous since I’ve never handled or even seen one in person. Well, overall I’m quite pleased with it.

The blade is centered and came with a decent working edge which is what I would expect from a new knife.

Lockup is just about perfect with a minor amount of lock stick and no blade play. The handle texture is very rough though, probably equivalent to 320 grit sandpaper. Overall, I’m quite pleased with my first Emerson, and I could see myself getting another one in the near future.
Don’t get me wrong, the knife isn’t polished up as well as other knives in the same price range but I can still see why people like them.

Emerson knives break in, not down. Use the hell out of that knife.. the scales will smooth out, the edge can be stropped sharp. Congratulations on buying one ( be careful though, they multiply rather fast ).
Since the lock is titanium on steel, does it wear in so far and stop, or is it something that normally needs to be replaced after so long?

Definitely a possibility of developing later lock up if you constantly slam them open.. more so on the earlier models. My most carried knife is a 2013 commander and it’s rock solid at about 40% lock up. Once in a while you’ll get one with late lock up ( 60-70 % ) but it’s rare with recent releases. I have never had to use the Emerson warranty but I imagine they could replace the liner if requested. Lock stock will fade ( use sharpie on the lock face. DO NOT OIL the lock face.. it has caused later lock up in my experience ).

I have sold all of my folders besides these and one SHF. They work well.

Ok, I lubed my lock face with G96 CLP last night. I only opened and closed it a few times, so it shouldn’t have affected it much. When I get home from work I’ll clean it off with a paper towel and some rubbing alcohol.

What kinda rmj goodness came in that box? 🧐

Quality concerns on brand new Emerson's are a thing of the past. I'm sure outliers will still make it out ofc, but not like it was 10+ years ago. I got a Com-Seven recently that came so perfectly I just had to pick up a Combat Kwaiken. Emerson EDC is a nice change of pace. Kinda like an old vinyl record. Analog folders. I will always have a spot in my rotation for one.

I'm even going to try out the chisel edge. As a younger man, I thought I knew more about knives than Ernest Emerson. (I had the internet after all.) I always put a V edge on them before carrying. I'm older now, and a lot more chill, so I'm going to ride the chisel edge on the Com Seven and even try to resharpen as a chisel edge. Figure it's at least worth giving it a chance. So far so good for sure. It came screaming sharp out of the box.

I didn't care for the chisel edge on my CQC7A so I modified it to a convex edge. Took a while on a coarse diamond hone but it now slices evenly. My CQC7BW with the chisel edge is another matter. it's a great utility knife, but it will carve an arc when cutting through thick stuff. Haven't had any problem with the lock on either and don't expect to except maybe after a decade or longer. They're both workers.
