Just got this new unwaved cqc7 today. So far love it. Ill post pics later.

One question I got is I know that they take a long time to break in and come rather stiff out of the box but how long does it take to break it in? Just thumbing it open i don't flick or anything.

So far though its been rock solid and has good fit.

Take it apart, clean it up, re-lube lightly with what works for you. Open and close a few times, use the heck out of it, and it'll be aces.

Congratulations on the 7. On break in I usually give a new Emerson about a week of constant opening and closing when fiddling around the house and such before I mess with it. Then clean it out and work a few drops of my favorite lube into the pivot and adjust the pivot for centering and flickability So far this has worked for me and left me with extremely smooth opening and mostly stick free locks.

I actually prefer just lubricating the knife and breaking it in.

Ive had better results doing that than doing a teardown but YMMV.

People always ask this question of every knife company. Personally, I like when my new knives actually feel like....new knives. I don't want some loose, used, knife. Emerson knives are not your typical folders. Just use the knife, don't worry about when they will break in. It's impossible to answer the question anyway. It all depends on how long you own it, how much you use it, etc.
