Nice, a!:jerkit:

What is the story behind the knife? Is is really new? Have you contacted the knife store? Come on man....you have to give us some more information. I was preparing to buy a Super 7 today. Either your timing is terrible or great?
TC

The story- copy paste from my e-mail to knife store ''New Graham''

''I am big knife enthusiast from Bulgaria. Due to your complicated conditions for International orders and some Custom specifics, I was purchasing knifes from you via some friends, living in the States. It is much easier to buy directly from E-bay, but I always preferred to use your web-site for the outstanding reputation and guarantee for high quality of your products, at least till recently. That's why, you can imagine my surprise and disappointment when I received the knife that a friend of mine purchased for me from your web-site, the "Emerson CQC Super 7" and brought in Bulgaria... First of all the unit was manufactured in 2007, which I would think was not mentioned in the description in the web-site, because, as far as I know, after 2007 there is a technical changes in this models, for instance - there is a thicker linerlock. Such detail should be mentioned in the web-site or when someone purchase a specific product, I think it is the correct procedure to receive the same product, not a unit technically different from the advertised.
Also, on the blade, there are some ugly cosmetic defects, that are clearly visible from the picture that I'm attaching... As you can imagine, for me, being in Bulgaria is extremely difficult to do any returns and exchanges, it will take at least long time and I already waited for this knife over a month, besides the complications with the Customs and Postal difficulties, so I would not do this in any way.
I rely on this knife in my everyday job but my only intention to write this letter to you is to be able to get a corresponding to your reputation and quality product next time when I order such knife. The current experience with this order was some how disappointing, generally speaking, I would like to get my money worth on this knife, and I will also let EMERSONKNIVES know about it. ''

They gave me 5% discount at next order.

The poor fit and finish on Emerson knives is generally shown only in the beveling on scales, the grinding on liners, and the grit and gunk left in pivots and alcoves after the knife is assembled. I've seen plenty of ugly new Emersons, but none of them had stripped screwheads - Emerson has no reason to remove screws once they've assembled the knife. If the screwheads are stripped, it was probably previously owned.

Sorry about that. Some of those slip through. Don't let it sour you.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here, Rolf. When a person pays premium quality for a knife, they expect to receive a knife appropriate to the price they pay. This has been discussed recently in another topic in this forum, and I'll admit I've been disillusioned with Emerson after shopping with some other knife companies.

In either event, sorry about your bad luck with your knife. Let us know what the stores says in reply. And be sure to let Emerson Knives know as well - all companies should be made aware where their products are not up to par.

I actually dont post often here but lurk daily. I am a Emerson nut and NEVER saw anything even close to this. I am actually thinking by looking at it is that It has lint all over it like it has been in a pocket. Sure looks to me like someone borrowed it from the warehouse for a couple days. How does the grind look? Does it look like it has been toouched up?

This was my previous impression. Looks like someone bought it, tried it out and returned it. NGK probably did a quick look over and just reshelved it.

To me, this does not look like an Emerson issue, but rather a NGK issue. The OP was clearly under the impression he was getting a NEW Super CQC-7 and got what appears to be a lightly carried and possibly used 2007 Super CQC-7.

However, I would think that the friend who purchased it should have actually been the one to check it out thoroughly before shipping it off to Bulgaria, especially if that friend happens to be a knife person, and especially knowing that once it leaves the states, the chances of returning it would be slim to none. Anyone who is even mildly familiar with Emersons would have flagged those issues and contacted NGK right away to make things right.

Either way it sucks that the OP got a sub-par knife and is now stuck with it with nothing to show but a 5% discount on a future purchase.

looks used to me. ive never seen stripped screws on a nib emerson like that.

the gunk? i dont think ive ever seen that on any of mine either.

ive never understood the unfit scale. even on my hand ground the scale is a bit oversized.

a couple weeks ago i dremeled all mine to even out the scales relative to the liners.

Notice the screws are stripped on the clip in the direction of tightening them too, looks like someone moved the clip and maybe over tightened?

You Are Absolutely Right!

This is the full reply from NGK-

''I am sorry to hear of the problems. These knives come straight from distributors so we have no idea what year they are unless someone asks us to look at the date for them. I can give a 5% discount of your next order. I hope that you understand we can not check every knife that comes into us. If there is anything else I can try to do just let me know.
Thanks’’

My e-mail to Emersonknives -

''To Mr. Ernest Emerson.
…Years ago I purchased my first Emerson knife - Emerson-Commander (pictures of which are in "Famous in the worst places" for which I'm very thankful). This Emerson quickly become my EDC knife because of his excellent ergonomics and functionality.
About a month ago, I finally was able to purchase one of the several models that I like very much - CQC Super 7. Good friend of mine purchased the knife from Newgraham and brought it here, in Bulgaria.
I waited for this knife a long time and you can imagine my disappointment when I opened the box and found the knife with awful finish on the blade, as you can see from the attached pictures, really bad defect on the wave hook and the coating on some places is uneven and raw...
I don't want to send back the knife, you can imagine the complications that I would go trough to send it back to the States, a process involving more time and expenses and chance to lose the knife trough the postal route...
I'm writing all this to you with the only intention to let you know that the quality of this particular knife does not stand to your outstanding reputation and shows flaws in your quality control. Your knifes are expensive tools, that I'm using on daily bases and I think, the quality should correspond to their price.

With best regards, and still Emerson Knives fan…’’

And reply-

''Dear Sir,

I have forwarded this email to Mr. Emerson.

Thank you very much.

I don’t think the knife is used. The blade is not worn out but there are places on the finish with bubbles , the sharpening is also excellent and it opens with a light crisp, just like my Commander when it was new. I have nothing against NGK - as a dealer they must change defect knives. It’s my problem that it is not convenient for me. At least they were honest with me and those 5 % may be are a good gesture. What was annoying was the answer of Emerson “Thank you very much!!!”. Well, I thank YOU too, but when you sold something that looks like a Chinese copy and cost me 170$ one, a “Sorry” would be a better answer.

Looks like it came from the factory like this, I thought that was grime all around the piviot area but thats the way the steel was cut. I think who ever assembled that knife was either hung-over or smoking crack. Emerson should replace this with a new knife. It makes me sick to look at this. The biggest problem i've ever had with an Emerson is my new CQC-13 being too stiff but this is something totally unacceptable. The only fault I see with NGK is that they never inspected the knife before selling it but in the end this is an Emerson issue.

This is getting very sad for mr Emerson I have been looking forward to my new roadhouse but now I'm wondering if I should cancel my order and I am in no way trying to bash mr Emerson at all but the Last few day I have seen some very disappointing examples and have red some disappointing things as well I hope all of this catches someone at Emerson's attention so all of this can be rectified. and I hope that I'm not not one of the unfortunate ones

Spend some $ and send it to Reese Weiland.

RW will always do you right!

I agree they are expensive and I have to save up just to get one but I also wanted to send it to him to have a frame lock conversation done I guess I will have to save a little longer
