The lovely Ms. Yangdu was gracious with me and my wife the other day - she sent my wife a wonderful necklace with tons of lapis, turquoise, rose quartz, amethist, malachite, garnit, and many others - Since my wife makes a lot of jewelry as both a hobby and a business, this put such a smile on her face that it took hours to wipe off. She sat clutching it in our living room, turning it over and over in her hands and tlaking about it. Meanwhile, I was off into my own madness - the new BDC [Burra's daily carry, if I'm not mistaken]. I've quickly fallen in love with this little beauty! It's small enough that you actually can carry it around, yet still big enough to handle anything I might realistically need in my day to day travels. It's probably not big enough to build a house with, but it would certainly open anything I want opened, clear any brush, and do wonders around a campsite -all in a package that's light enough to tote around everywhere! Plus, its got horn chiruwa slab side handles and a white metal bolster - that combo has always made me giddy! I'm not familar with the Kami, but I have to say this knife was THE SHARPEST knife I've EVER gotten from HI. It wil cleanly cut a free hanging piece of paper with litle more than a push. WOW! The blade reminds me of an M-43 profile, but with Ang Khola style wavy fullers - very beautiful and versatile.

This one has quickly become my favorite every day carry!

WTF? You seriously carry that thing everyday?

i know it's kinda small for an edc, but some people can make do with the teeny ones. (your perspective as to what is small/large gets kinda skewed after a few khukuris are under (or on) your belt ;))

Absolutely. you don't carry a Khuk?

I also carry a small S&W folder so if I just need to cut a string or opena package of hotdogs at teh BBQI don't have to alarm the sheeple. ut for big chores, defense, or labor work - Khuk it is!

i would love to have my new BDC as an EDC, but its about .5-1" too long for legal carry in texas to my knowledge. my tip to cho measures about 6"

I don't leave the house without Nepali steel on my person:) It's generally something small like a 12-14" siru. However, I specifically designed my Rose's sheath so that it rides high and tight with only the last little bit of the tip exposed from under an over shirt. Not perfect, but it IS 20" long;) My absolute favorite HI EDC is the Kerambit. Plenty of muscle, small enough to carry. Great for everything from opening boxes to going into Raptor-Mode in .34 seconds.

Today I'm giving the Spear Vala/Smatchet a test run. It's right at 14" and a tad heavy for EVERY day carry. However, it's too cool to leave home:)

This time of year, i start to get paranoid about slide offs and crashes. Granted, you can generally count our yearly snow and ice events on one hand, and I drive diesel 4x4 F250 that would "win" most wrecks. However, I just like having something that can free my wife and little girl from the car/truck in moment's notice. Seat belts, glass, fabric, STEEL, given enough adrenaline any average HI khuk/big knife could be pressed into such service.

The 10" BDC has been on my radar for a long while now. It looks like the perfect EDC for the quasi urban jungle. Congrats:)

So, do people freak out when they see it on your belt? Or is your town cool about it?

I can just about guarantee that if you were walking with that on a busy street in Los Angeles you would get shot down by the trigger happy LAPD.

Anyways that is a nice khukri.

Ah i see. You're in LA:) California is a bit...well I think they use the term "progressive" as to what a citizen needs or doesn't need. In most places in Indiana, if you aren't doing anything stupid, the cops aren't going to hassle you. There isn't much of a knife law short of automatics. Do i walk around the mall with a khuk on my belt...nah, i dont want to scare people:)

But if I want to wear one to work, I do. I own my own business and it's private property. I keep it covered:) Generally, on my belt, no one is the wiser. I also like to use a shoulder holster. Carrying a big knife is like carrying a handgun. Most people will never know if you do it discretely and of course legally:)

I know if I saw the poolguy wearing some nepali steel he'd have to charge me for another hour or so of time on the clock

lol:thumbup: Well, I do tout myself as the most well armed pool professional in town;)

Very cool. I like the story about your wife. Reminds me of my girlfriend when she gets a bunch of things she can craft with. There's a certain sparkle in the eye. :D

I just bought one in the 12/28 sale thread. My first kuk and looks just like yours only with wood instead of horn. She wrote Lachhi on the description. Was that a typo? Also, I'm a bit ignorant on kuks, what's a Bura?

Lachhi, Lachhu=Tomatoe, tomatoe....:D

Bura="Old Man"
Bura to us is our national treasure, head kami, shop foreman and former khukuri maker to the former King of Nepal. His name is Lal Bahadur Bishwakharma. He is presently out of action due to his last stroke and sickness.

Red Flower put a lot of thought into her (one) khukuri. The BDC is the model she chose for her one and only. This old thread has a lot of advice from forumites (including Uncle Bill, Rusty, Yvsa, and other old timers) concerning the BDC, and a picture of the custom BDC she ended up with.

Beautiful knife, no doubt... Although I'd feel silly edcing it, to each their own.
