A little over 2 & 1/2 hours ago I received a (NIB) Benchmade 805 TSEK as a result of a trade with "Shootist16" (thanks, Dennis!), and after smoothing and rounding the edges of the G-10 scales (as well as moving the pocket-clip over to the "correct" side), this "805" has quickly become my FAVORITE folder, and has replaced my Benchmade 710 as my "defensive/offensive" EDC folder.

That makes it 4 Benchmades, and counting.:D.

C'mon glockman, you can't tease us with a description like that and *not* include pictures! That's just plain evil! :)

Since you want pictures, I have to mention that I recently bought a digital camera at eBay (...thank God for Income-Tax returns!.:D), and the person I bought it from is shipping it to me TODAY, so as soon as I receive this camera (and get it all figured-out), I WILL be posting pictures of my Benchmade family of knives.:).

What/how'd you round the edges(with)? I'm interested in doing the same with my 806d2. Thanks.

We Benchmade fanatics always welcome a new person to the club, happy buying.

First, I removed the pocket-clip (since it was going to the other side anyway, as I'm a "lefty"), then I used a small 1/2 round file to "break the edge" of the G-10 scales, then I used some 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper (dry) to round and polish the edges of the G-10. While I was at it, I also removed the sharp-edges of the stainless liners. As a note, I stuffed a little cloth around the pivot to keep the "sanding junk" out of the pivot area while I was doing the filing and sanding. The whole "job" took about 20 minutes, including removing that black "stuff" from the pocket-clip.

Dann, I bet if you got a Rolls-Royce in trade for something you would have to do your special modifications to it. Seems like you have to "customize" everything you get....maybe you should just switch arms from one socket to the other and then you could use everything just like us normal folks   ;) ;)

A SECRET:
Dann used to do fine tuning of Colt 45's in the service so he knows how to make his modifications just fine.

and i remember those times when you were all over spyderco :D

i mean, i like them too, but i also like to be open-minded. glockman, i guess you have just open-minded yourself a little bit more. which is cool. i noticed this first when i read your review of the 730, which quite impressed me.

congrats to your new knife.

Ron...It's GREAT to see you posting again!!...I hope that you are doing ok, and that your body is behaving itself, and not giving you too much trouble.:).

Yes, it's true that I DO like to "tinker, improve on the almost perfect, and modify" pretty much everything that I get my hands on.:D.:D.

805 does rock! I'm not sure what the new ones are like, but I think they have the plastic circle with the BM butterfly towards the end of the handle. I have a pre-production without the logo in the handle, I think the logo's ugly there.

Glad you like your new BM! :)

Naw...It just gives me something to do while watching television.:D.:D.

"Gong"...There is no logo on the handle of this 805.

My first qualityt folder was an AFCK. WHen I saw the TSEK coem out, I thought that the blade was better than the AFCK, for my needs anyways. Well chosen Dan! You have quite the useful knife collection going (and growing!)

About damn time you 'stepped up', Dann! :D

As with Crayola, my first high quality folder was a Benchmade when they first did the colab with Ernie Emerson.

The majority of my production collection is Benchmades and Emersons, and I recently added a Sebenza to the mix. My recent aquisition (last Friday) is a BM 520 Presidio. It came with the Bronze Phosphor washers, and is by far the smoothest operating BM I have. I hope this is going to be standard fare for them.

Now, all you need is a Sebenza, and you'll really be drooling!

:D

Mike,

I did have a Sebenza, and to be honest, I like my Benchmade 805 BETTER. The scales on the 'Benza were too slick, and the frame-lock didn't fit in well with me being a "lefty"...(Yes, it was a "right-hand" Sebenza, but ya have to work with what ya get.:D.). The Benchmade 805 is 100% ambidextrous, but the Sebenza isn't...That's important to me. And I don't see THAT much of a "quality" difference between the Sebenza and the 805 to warrent the MUCH higher price of the CRK Sebenza over the Benchmade 805.

...But then, I'm also the guy who would take my Casio Tough Solar Triple Sensor Protrek watch over a Rolex.:D.

Glockman, I got my 805 and 806D2 at the same time -- and though I love the useful (and benign-looking) blade on the 805, IMO the 806's blade just blows it away. At least go to your nearest B&M and handle the 806 so you'll know what you're missing. (You know you're going to end up owning one sooner or later....

Then get yourself a dedicated left-handed Sebenza.

Its about time somebody else posted in favor of the 805.
I like mine better than my 806 or any other full size
AFCK I have had. The blade is of a much more useful shape and
just looks better than the clippie one on the 806.

The 805 ranks right up there with my Socom Elite clip point as one of my favorite large folders.

I've been boggling over the 805 vs 710 for some time now.
You're happy w/440C then?
Methinks your statements here have just tipped the scales (no pun intended) to the 805 side. I also prefer the drop point shape over the 710.
Ya gotta love the Benchmades...
There's only one down side ... :(
