I got this on Thursday morning right from CRK. I dealt with Bridget the whole time, and found her to be nothing short of amazing. :)

It's a large, of course, and it has a swedge and silver thumblug and spacers, instead of blue. The date on the blade is 4/22/2003. I think this has got to be one of the last flat grounds made......

Most excellent choice, sir! I thought I had the last one (4-2-03)
Congratulations!! The flat grind geometry excels in so many ways.
My only wish is that the blade would have been S30V.
I modified my "regular" with 1/8" carbon fiber overlays for a 3/4" thick Sebenza. It's one of the best knives I own now (and I have a pretty decent custom collection)
Let us know how it performs!

Regards,

Barry H

How much do the flat ground models run? Does CRK also make classic small Sebbie in that blade design?

Thanks for the kind words all. :)

Barry-

I love flat grinds in general too. :) And this one also seems even sharper than the hollow ground Sebs, if that's possible.... :p

I bet your overlays look cool..... :D

trane_fan-

They are priced no differently than the regular large Sebenzas, except that there are only currently 130 flat-ground blades. As far as I'm aware, they were all finished some time ago, and are only assembled into knives as they are ordered. I don't believe there are any short-term plans to release any more, or to make them in other sizes or styles.

That is a beauty!

Currently the only flat ground blade I have is my G10 Police and that is an excellent slicer. I can only imagine what type of slicing and cutting finesse and power a flat ground Seb has.

That knife looks sweet!:) :) :)

trane-fan,
My dealer has a large flat grind left. If you want it, let me know.

The details are murky to me, but CRK does not plan on doing any more flat grinds--bummer:(

Barry right now I'm interested in getting a second small Sebbie. I just thought I could maybe get one that was flat ground. That just looks to be a very cool variation. Thanks for the thought.

geode,
I borrowed a friend's Casio Qv-100 digicam this am. He musta spent five bucks on it, cause it didn't do the knife justice. So I guess I'll get out my trustly Canon AE-1 and have the film processed to disc.
I anyone can host my pictures when they are done, that would be kool--

LW,

I will take a shot at answering your question - anyone feel free to correct errors or omissions.

The flat grind refers to the contour of the blade profile, if looked at in the cross-section. Flat ground is just that - flat, as opposed to the popular hollow grind which would result in a concave profile on each side of the blade.

If you do a search on either "flat grind" or "hollow grind", you will probably find a more coherent explanation than mine from others on the forums.

Barry, I'd love to see what you did with your Seb. Email the pictures to me when you have them done and I'll post them for you.

This Sebenza is very beautiful, I especially like the swedge and the silver thumb...

Barry's CF Sebbie, looks good to me!
