head: Sveden, Primaluna , Lecce , Italija

handle: Granfors -Bruks , american oak, Bergsjö, Sweden

Looks like they made a model that is maybe more modern ways and less forging and more sanding the finished product. still very nice and no paint trying to hide anything.

Just so we're all on the same page, the hatchet head was made by a company in Italy (not Gransfors Bruks) and mounted on a Gransfors handle. Looks like a 600g head (about 1-1/4 pound).

This is correct. Gransfors Bruks went away from sanded heads a while back...they aren't going back anytime soon.

Also, the epoxy may seem nice now...but wait til it needs to be re-hafted and you'll be kicking yourself. It also looks as if the head was not fitted properly. There shouldn't be any space between the head and the haft. If done properly epoxy is not needed.

I have fitted many handles into tools heads and getting a perfect fit is nearly impossible. Removing the broken portion of handle from the head with, or without epoxy, is not as different as you think. They are both difficult but there are tricks that help. I place the tool behind the woodstove for weeks. This removes all moisture from the wood. Frequently I can get a wiggle just by doing this. Carefully drill a series of holes from the top of the handle downwards. The remainder of the handle is easily driven out. I have replaced epoxied handles with little or no more effort.

I bough a box of rusty heads most had wood in the heads. Some were epoxied, they didn't hold on much tighter, some not any tighter at all. I assume the epoxy is there to keep moisture & rot out of it. Not sure if it would make much difference in the life of the axe.

Well, I am not a "hard" user. Living in Croatia, near beutiful "park of nature" mountain Biokovo, this hatchet will be used only on one or two days trips, to make fire wood or so...
The project was to put cheap Italian axe head ( badly handled in factory ) on most famous handle I ordered gfrom UK online shop. It was inspired by similar project by Ross (member rg598) -Granfors-Bruks small forest axe cheap alternative replacement project on woodtrekker blog.
