Some of you may recall a couple of months ago I asked some questions about traditionals and ended up with my first GEC. Y'all warned me if wouldn't be my last and you were right! And doggone it all if I didn't just read through the Gunstock thread and decide I need one of them too! There's worse things to get hooked on I reckon!

Anyway, here's my first #55 Northfield UnxLD Hound Tooth in Autumn Gold Jigged Bone:

And here's the two that came in today!

#12 Tidioute Toothpick Second Cut Burnt Stag Serialized (#5 of 50)

#15 Tidioute Cutlery Boy’s Knife in Ebony

So now I've got a Case Sodbuster Jr., an old Camlllus TL-29 and these three GECs.

I love the toothpick. I didn't know how I'd like it but it's quickly become my favorite just in the little bit I've had it. It fits my hand really well. The Boy's Knife is nice also, but it has some QC issues I hope to get sorted (little blade play and a gap between one of the scales and the tang).

Anyway, hope y'all enjoy the pics as much as I'm enjoying the knives. Thanks for all the great advice!

That's a great set.

Congrats!

You have a great start...They are all very nice...But the #15 Tidioute Cutlery Boy’s Knife in Ebony is very VERY nice! I like it...Lots.

Some fine choices there. I've always been curious about how I would like a #12, but haven't gotten around to trying one out. Agreed with Tom, though - that ebony #15 is clean and simple perfection.

You've got it bad....

Smithhammer, the 12 is a serious sleeper. It is extremely comfortable to use and I think it looks great too. I have fought the urge to have one made up as a Northwoods...

I agree on the #12 toothpick pattern. One of the best single blades around.

As many knives as I have in my box, I don't have any of the 5 you listed. I must be slacking.

Nice knives and pictures!

I agree - there are much worse things to be doing with your hobby money.

GEC makes a fine knife, thanks for sharing your ongoing collecting.

best

I like it also Tom. I recall in another thread someone commenting on how they liked the unmarked blades on some of the Boy's Knives. My others are all marked. Once I got this one out of the tube and looked it over, I was impressed by how tight and smooth the build was. It's a very nice knife, even with it's minor flaws (which GEC is going to sort out for me). I think the plain black Ebony contrasts nicely with the smooth clip point blade. I really like the belly of the blade, seems quite useful.

I have wanted a Toothpick ever since I was a kid. I remember some of the cowboys I used to see on TV and read about in old L'Amour novels (which I still read by the way, reading The Guns of Yellow Butte right now!) carried them and they always fascinated me. I think it's neat how they are based on designs dating back much older than America (and Texas) in to Europe. Anyway, the ergos are fantastic and I like this knife a whole lot!

Thanks Derrick, next GEC purchase is w/ you!

I agree. I MUCH prefer single blade knives myself. I'd rather carry two knives than a single knife with two blades. That may change though, as I run out of single blade GEC options to buy!

Why fight it??? :p ;)

Thanks for sharing the pics of your latest. I'm just starting out also, and have a #12 Toothpick on the way to me also as one of my first traditionals. I don't know - the pattern just kind of jumped off the page at me. Maybe also because I read a lot of westerns, and am looking for knives/guns that depict the old west.
Mine should be here Thursday - really excited to see it in person!

I really like the #12 Toothpick pattern. I have the single blade version, with some really nice deep purple Italian-jigged bone and a corset shield. Very classy, yet still very useful. Equally at home in the watch pocket of my waistcoat or in the hip pocket of my Levi's, it is unobtrusive to carry and yet it fills the hand enough to be a work knife. Good size, too, being a tad smaller than a "full size" toothpick (which ordinarily measures 5" closed!!).

In fact, I just really like the Toothpick pattern in general. Here's my favorite EDC knife, a Lloyd toothpick given to me by a good friend here on the forum, and also a really nice Queen toothpick that I used to have, which now resides with yet another good friend here on the forum.

I LOVE TOOTHPICKS!!! ;)

A well-chosen start. The Toothpick has similarities to the French Laguiole, which is itself one of THE great in hand knives, ergonomics at its best.

So too the Houndstooth, I'm very set on this knife, have the Tidioute version/Wharncliffe and find it a fantastic companion and interestingly different. Looking forward to the KSF Barehead interpretation of this pattern.

Regret to hear of the issues you have with the Boy's Knife. Just got a Ivory Bone version last week and was amazed at the quality, no play and no gaps or raised liners, spring etc. Do hope you will get it replaced to your satisfaction.

OK it's at the start but you NEED a 73 of some manner! Why not a 48 or 68, then there's the 25, 85, 92 all out there waiting to pounce...

Good luck with your voyage with GEC.

Regards, Will

Derrick -

I won't fight the urge if you don't! :D

Why do I suddenly feel like a fish that's just seen a helpless tasty looking worm dangling from a bit of string?

The 12 is my favourite pattern.Whats not to like? classy ,stylish, historical, old fashioned, graceful.
Hopefully a new Saddle brown jigged bone 12 will be with me next week.
cheers

I really like my Hound Tooth also. It has great ergos and is really classy. It always gets ooohs and aaahs when I pull it out (I'm blessed to still live in knife friendly country).

No worries on the Boy's Knife. I understand sometimes one will slip through. Other than the minor blade play and gap, it's solid and very well put together. I imagine the Ebony cover may have twisted the scale some. Maybe, maybe not. Either way, GEC said they'd handle the issue no worries. Good customer service.

I do want a 72/73, but I've heard there were issues with them. I'm a little leary of GEC's lockbacks also, but even the non-locking, I hear there may be some issues with. I'm sure I'll end up with one regardless. Hope it's a good one (Derrick)! :P

Not too many issues with the 73, except difficult to choose just ONE :D:D You might like to try the linerlock version, I've been highly impressed with the GEC linerlocks I own. Not very struck on the lockback though, good looking but too much play for my taste, I've heard similar complaints, GEC may not yet have mastered the art of lockbacks . Buck, CASE and even RR turn out very solid play free LBs though.

Yeah that Houndstooth is a sleek looker no question.

Thanks, Will

Sulaco, nice choices - you've included jigged bone, stag, and ebony - three great handle materials, and Turkish Clip, Clip, and Warncliff main blades - again three excellent choices. Now you can plan more purchases; adding knives with a Spear main blade, a Sheepfoot main blade, Cocobolo handles..............!!! OH
