I got this the other day and its a great folder. Really really nice truly handmade example of the craft here!

Only problem is it needs to be tip up which is unfortunate since its so great but its the only way I can use it.

So, thats coming up too.

Thats a sweet looking folder it looks really solid. The overall shape is nice and utilitarian, and the addition of carbon fiber helps it stand out just enough. In short I'm jealous :)

Thanks. I got it in a trade. Its 4.2 ounces. The liners are thicker and look to be about .070 or more. I got it in a trade.

When I first got it and examined it it had a small bit of vertical blade play. Turned out to be that the lock simply was not sprung enough to make it self correct. It was an easy fix and its rock solid now. In respringing the lock I had to dissassemble it. As a result I got to check out how its made. Its very similar inside to how I do mine. Nearly identical placement of the stop poisition and the lock contact. In short its sure made right and is very much a quality folder.

too bad im poor and cant afford a make over.

mike ;)

I tell ya if all liner locks were made like this one I'd never find a bad word to say against any of them. I love this folder! Its the perfect size too. I only wish it had a Wharncliffe blade. Then it would be perfect but this blade is actually growing on me. I would imagine it will be a great small game skinner which I'll have to break in for my next batch of grandma's squirrel pot pie. :D

Thanks.
Gene has this knife right now making me a new Wharncliffe blade for it.

I liked the blade ok in it but had little use for it compared to my Wharny and modified Wharny blades. Once I get it back from him with a new S30V Wharncliffe blade in it I'm sure it will see lots more pocket time.

Oh I've still got all my grandma's old recipes. You have to realize I grew up in West Virginia. We grew up on things like squirrel pot pie and venison, rabbit, pheasant, duck, turkey and all manner of game fish and more and we hunted and fished it ourselves. We were never trophy hunters in my family. What we hunted we ate. Most of my family still hunts and relies on the meat from kills for a good bit if not 90% or more of all the meat in our diet. I still have my grandmother's hide tanning instructions for how we used deer hides and made lots of things out of them from jackets to moccassins, wallets and more. I am not native to Oklahoma. Been here 20 years though.

Now if you want barf material hows this? My dad and grandmother used to eat squirrel brains. Now that was hard to fathom when they'd sit around cracking the skulls like walnuts and us kids could never be around it. We did eat the meat in stews and pot pie and other recipes though and never thought much of that. All our burger, meat loaf, steaks, liver and sausage was deer though. Until joining the service when I was 18 I had never had a beef burger. Go figure. Whats hard here is that we have a whole yard full of gray squirrels. I've seen 10 or more at once out back and my wife won't let me kill any of em!:D Um Um good if I could though.

Uh oh! Looks like the 'wife of backyard knifeworker found you.' :D

Damn shes here spying on me! I'm going to have to edit some posts and behave myself now!

Nice folder, Steve. With that square bolster, you could thunk someone!! Thanks for the pic.

Did I say Steve? I meant Fred from Kansas. Steve who?
Seriously though wobykw I meant only the really old squirrels who were on their last legs anyway. Besides, squirrels may not bother you but Steve and I have nuts to be concerned about.

I needed some good news yesterday and it came in the way of my new blade I had Gene Baskett put in this folder I traded for a while back. I still have the original blade and stored that inside the carry pouch that came with the folder for in case I ever do decide to kill bambi or have some squirrel pot pie one day. Gene was kind enough to allow me to draw up a blade I wanted and he sent me a prototype card cut out of it to show me and then he was patient enough with me to modify that a little for some additional changes I wanted in the way of a swedge and more of a splinter picker point. Then he went above and beyond by breaking down the entire folder and re bead blasting everything and cleaning it all up with new washers even.

The end result is a nice Wharncliffe blade shape which as you all know is my number one favorite shape for an everyday carry. To me this is all a guy like myself ever needs. I can't even hardly bring myself to use another knife unless its got a Wharny type blade on it also and you'd know as soon as you looked in my safe what my fave blade shape was.

This one is seeing some use I'll tell ya that.

Thanks Gene. You out did yourself my friend. I'm glad I had you do it rather than make my own. I don't think a two blade tactical of yours is a bad thing to own my friend. I feel special now! And after Gene called me back yesterday wanting to know where I got 'that really cool clip' I had on his knife I feel even more special. It looks like I'll be making a few pocket clips for him on some up coming models he is working on which I am very proud to say.:D

Ok -so what's the nic in the top of the blade for ? ( other than just to drive the rest of us nuts trying to figure it out?)

I meant to ask Gene about that and forgot but someone else told me bits and pieces. Apparently Gene is an Electrician for his real job and that 'nick' is something he puts in a lot of his blades as a sort of tell tale signiture that its his. It has something to do with a 'linemans' knife so I guess they use it for crimping or something like that when working with wire. I really don't know other than that. When I speak to him next I'll ask him. He called just yesterday and once again I forgot to bring that up.

EDIT: Ok I just spoke with Gene and he said historically the notch stems from Spanish Inqusition days when it was created in swords to hopefully catch and twist an opponents weapon out of his hand but in a folder it is just for looks. He knows this and does not sell it as a fighting knife but just feels personally that it looks better with it than without because without he didn't like the blade as much. So mostly its a personal thing for looks only.

That's a nice knife, STR. I like it a lot better with the wharncliffe blade. I also think a wharncliffe is ideal for EDC and they look good too!
