I’ve always been envious of leather workers that can use a round knife for leather work. It’s super fast in the right hands but a poop show for others (me). I came across this last night while going through my old inlay kit and had a thought. A different blade and I’m off to the races. Just cut out 5 sheaths in less time than my laser will cut out two and it’s super comfy to use.

I've been watching a ton of youtube vids about boot making, and realized I need to up my game a bit with some proper cutting an skivving tools. Starting designing a few different tools last night- might use your turkey baster handle shape to design a similar knife but with a permanently fixed blade

Some cutting to do with this Horsewright asymmetrical roundknife:

I timed it to see. 27 welts in five minutes and 10 seconds. Just normal working speed not trying to go fast.

My welt shapes handle 98 percent of the sheaths I do. Just need to be trimmed to size and shape.

Only needed 16 welts as that's how many sheaths I was making, here after being trimmed prior to wet forming.

After 3 hrs and 45 mins in the oven at 178 degrees (flipped at every hour and fifteen), they get oiled. Then they spend the night on the kitchen counter.

Then finished. A few all done:
