Yes, it is 3:10 a.m. Eastern Time. I've been working on this project since 11:00 p.m. after I was done working on the bathroom remodeling job. All day I'd been taking breaks and watching the two videos from Robert Young Pelton and thought I'd love to be able to use the HEST I earlier robbed the handle slabs from to use on my IZULA. I also have an extra ESEE-3 hanging around, so I got this crazy idea that I would like to put the handles on my HEST. Well, after 4 solid hours, and a crazy first attempt at Kydex manipulation and I have a knife I can use now and am rather proud of.

The sheath holds the knife just like it did before. It has that same familiar and secure pop.

looks oky doky, it gave you something to while being trapped in Pathhetic NY. I use to live up by you in Freeeville any idea where i mean????

Neat project, looks like a comfortable handle.

though looks a bit funky around the pomel though imho
the curve of the scales and tang don't match up at all.

lol the old saying "Robbing Peter to pay Paul" comes to mind.
Now you have to steal some scales for the 3. :p

Tag you do great work!! I love the fact that you personalize and make each piece your own..

With that said, I really don't care for this one myself, although nicely done.. Maybe its because to me the HEST is just suppose to look a certain way I guess (like no other knife)..

Mods are done to your liking so it really does not matter what I or anyone thinks as long as you like it:thumbup:

Take Care,

Rob

looks weird, the handle to blade ratio, also the pommel area
i think the hest looks best with the shape of his original scales, but hey, if you like it

This is what is great about the RAT Pack. You are not afraid to speak your mind. I like that. I was certainly expecting mixed reviews...and I was not disappointed. It actually feels great in my hand and gives me more to hold onto in contrast to the blade thickness. It is a thicker knife than the 3 with just about the same blade profile, so, having more handle made sense to me. I was initially just going to use some nice wood I have, but something made me keep it in the family, sort of speak. I'm wearing it right now and have used it to trim some wall paper (WOW!) and cut cardboard and trim back some wood on a stud in my bathroom remodel project.

The way the handles end near the blade give me more surface area to push down with my thumb and feels great. I realize the Butt looks odd to some, but, I wanted to cover the holes and if I rounded it, they would be exposed. I wanted to utilize as much of the handle material as possible and maintain the nice bevel at the front.

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate them.

You did a great job fitting those scales to your HEST. It does look a little strange at the butt end, but the knife wasn't designed for those either. Can you router out the middle of the scales to make room for storage space?! I think it looks great!

well done, and it answes the question of what you did with your naked HEST, but meh... i think i'd rather have them in the original configurations.

dunno, i haven't gotten any hands on time on a HEST, only have my 4 here ATM, and my LE HEST/F on order.

thinking of a plain HEST for the tank bag on one of my dual sport motorcycles.

i do need to sand down the scales on my Spyderco Bushcrafter because in some spots the scales are above the tang... just needs to be cleaned up a bit.

how much reshaping of the hest scales did you do to make them fit the izula?? I love the way that looks. This is nice too man...keep mixin it up -Tyler

I was thinking of taking it to that level, but, I have the center bolt hole to contend with. So, I figured just accept the fact I'll lose that feature, but, I did retain it to a degree in my IZULA that is my back-up in my pocket. I used the HEST scales and mounted them to my IZZY.
