Well, I got the Spyderco ultrafine benchstone for Christmas, and Thom has talked me into using one of my gift cards I got for the DMT XX coarse. I think I will also order up a DMT 1200, to have another distict grit between all of my spyderco grits. I also like how cleanly my DMT stones cut. Now I just need the time to use them. On another note, I also got for Christmas a 6 pack of M tech USA knives for Christmas. Can you say reprofile and torture test?

I really like my Spyderco ultrafine benchstone . I use it to finish after the coarser stones. It burnishes/hones the edge razor sharp.

I have the Sharpmaker ultrafines, but I get less burring with the larger area of benchstones. At least that is my experience with my medium and fine Spyderco benchstones vs. the Sharpmaker rods. I really like the results I have gotten with Spyderco's stones, I just wish I could find a better/quicker way to get them clean.

I just ordered up my D8XX (diasharp XX coarse) and a Diasharp 6" coarse stone. I only had $100 on the gift card, so I couldn't get the DMT X fine I wanted and keep it under the limit. I then tried for the Diasharp X fine, which they were out of, so I settled for the Diasharp Coarse. Maybe I can use that as an in between step from the XX coarse to the DMT fine, I just wanted to get as much for my $100 gift card as I could. Too bad there was sales tax and shipping, if there was no tax I could have got the DMT X fine with the UPS standard shipping and squeaked under the $100 limit by a few pennies.
