Hello all,

The post woman arrived last week with a lovely package that had my name on it. I new instantly what it was. My Jerry Hossom Texican had arrived!! I was impressed the second I opened the box. The knife came in a QUALITY zipper up leather knife case. The knife has a 5 9/16” blade and a 5 6/16” handle. The steel is CPM3V with an almost mirror finish(a very fine satin finish) Jerry explained that 3V will not take a mirror finish. The handle is polished black paper Micarta. Everything about this knife is perfect. The grinds, fit and finish, EVERYTHING, is flawless. The handle of this knife is nothing short of amazing. There are absolutely no tooling marks, it is as if Jerry sculpted the handle out of clay. When Jerry is going to make a knife for you, he asks for the measurements of your hand so the knife will fit perfectly, and it does. I have never felt a more secure handle. Even with only light to medium grip strength, the knife absolutely will not budge! The spine of the blade is something to behold, also. It comes to, sort of a smooth triangle. I have been to the East Coast Custom Knife Show and the NY Custom Knife show. I have seen a lot of knives from a lot of makers, and I can honestly say that Jerry’s work is equal to any that I have seen, and better than a lot. He is truly a master of his craft. Let’s not forget about the pins, oh the pins! They are some of the fanciest pins that I have ever seen. The sheath was done by our own, “Waxes Eloquent” AKA, Matt Draper. It is kydex, covered with waterproof leather. IMHO this is absolutely the perfect sheath for this knife. The strength of Kydex, with the classy look of leather. It adds a lot to this knife. Classiest kydex sheath on the market, hands down(That I have seen). I added a few holes of my own to the sheath and attached a clip that I had. The knife is my new EDC fixed blade and carries comfortably IWB. The pics honestly don’t do the knife justice, it looks so much nicer in person. I will be bringing the knife with me to the East Coast Custom Knife Show in March. I will probably be there on Friday. Ya gotta hold this knife to see what I am saying. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I’ll see ya at the show!

Look at the spine, in front of the thumb serrations. It comes to a smooth triangle. AWESOME!

You are a lucky man! That Texican is truly kick ass! Cool pics too...

Jerry's work is what I like to call "elegantly barbaric". Fancy enough to wear under a tux, yet perfect for doing the dirty work. Don't baby that knife, use it, cause that's what it's made for!!

Folks, Jerry is truly a custom knife maker and a gentleman. He also has a warped sense of humor.

He's also getting popular, with an article in the newest Blade mag as well as a report on CPM 3V in Tactical Knives, so order NOW.

I must also mention the fact that Waxy's sheaths are also "custom made", and his work is friggin' awesome!

Hossom and Waxy. Batman and Robin. Starsky and Hutch. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Coincidence? You decide...

You are right about Jerry, he is awesome. Hey, Hossom almost rhyms with awesome...Ya see that?

Louis,

You sound as if you like that new Hossom Texan just a little bit

. Now you see why I've waxed poetic on occasion about the fit and finish of Jerry knives and the incredible ergonomics of his handles.

Welcome to the club, but be careful! Jerry's blades are seriously addictive. I have three more on order right now and can't wait to see what he comes up with next

Enjoy!

Great looking knife! Were the pins and sheath standard treatment or extra? I can't wait till Jerry is ready to make one for me!

Yes - I am also in the "waiting for my knife from Jerry" club...

The man is amazing - and the level of details he goes into before making the decision - is also rare. Best of all - he answered questions I never knew existed....and in the most elaborated and knowledgeable way...

By all means - order yours now - before he gets too busy...

Bud,

The pins and sheath are standard. It doesn't get any better than this. I just wish I had asked Jerry to do some filework on the tang.

The only thing that is not standard(I think) is the thumb serrations on the spine. I could be wrong, though.

Neat knife...glad you're happy with it. Maybe sometime in the future I'll be able to see more of Jerry's work.

Shinryû.

Louis,
Beautiful knife, congrats. Another feature of Jerry's knives I really like (which your excellent photos point out very well) is the gentle palm swell built into the handles. The Texican must just melt into your hand.

Gaucho and Mr. G, as well as the infamous Matthew...(who actually started all of this and we have him to thank along with Jerry) have been singing the praises of this Gentle Man in Georgia for quite some time now.

We took alot of heat for it at times. I think all of the old reviews and comments still stand as a Testament to this Man's Skill.

Some people will never like them, these knives. Some will flank Jerry and spit fire at him, it matters not. A Crucible Rep was shaking his head in disbelief, not disgust, at what Jerry has created.

And he is only getting better.

And yeah, he's my Friend too. I'm glad that he is getting around and I wish him all of the Greatness that his Skills should bring him.

And the same goes for a knife...
And, I'm a Usual Suspect.

Louis,

It was very difficult to send that knife on. It is very special, and the aesthetics work flawlessly. But, the knife was not built for me, so begrugingly I sent it onwards.

I also really appreciate your patience with the extra week the sheath took.

Jerry is the finest knifemaker I know, hands down. I handle a lot of knives by a lot of different makers, and consistently I'm the most impressed by Mr. Hossom's work. I've seen them from basic and utilitarian, to complex and fancy. Regardless, they all embody a distinct beauty, a unique style, and an individual ethic.

The most rewarding, interestingly, is through Mr. Hossom I have the opportunity to meet many fine people. Don Rearic, Sniperboy, Couteaux, The Martial Way, Mr. G., Gaucho, among others are members of the Hossom Brotherhood. All brought together by a love for the finest in custom cutlery.

I can't wait to see you all in person at the Blade show this year!

Matt

P.S. I noticed that there are a couple of empty holes in that sheath, would you like me to send you a couple black on black stainless Chicago Screws?

Elegantly barbaric. Yes, indeed.

Jerry seems to give a damn about heat treat of good steels, blade grind vs. purpose, and handle ergonomics. I appreciate that very much.

On my list of people to get an order in with.

A beautiful knife made by a great knifemaker

That black paper micarta really looks good.

Doug.
