My new hunter

Well, maybe not my new hunter, meaning one that I made, but rather my new hunter that I got from fellow knifemaker Stuart Davenport (otherwise known hereabouts as SamuraiStuart). We share a fondness for many things, one of which happens to be hunting. One thing, however, I really don't enjoy doing is making hunting knives.

Go figure.

Stuart seems to really enjoy it, though. I asked him to make me a hunter. HIS definition of a hunter for dressing whitetail deer. Something he knows quite a bit about. I have a theory that the way to get the best work from a knifemaker is to let him make the knife he wants to make, to his design, his standards, his material choices. This is what he came up with, and what arrived at my doorstep this Friday:

The steel is Hitachi Blue #2, with a handle of spectacular stabilized walnut and a liner of black G10, and posh looking brass pins (probably because he knows I love brass, despite the fact that the knife collecting world views it with ill regard. Ergonomics are great, it's well balanced, the lines are smooth and clean, and the whole package screams to be used. LASERBEAM SHARP. I absolutely can't wait to use this on deer this season.

Thanks, Stuart, you're a good egg, my friend.

Awesome looking design. I love the look, brass pins and all. :)

Give us some specs on blade and OAL.

Thanks for sharing. I like your theory on a good custom hunting knife, Matt.

Nice piece. And I agree with your philosophy about letting the maker make the knife they want to make.

I'm in. A beauty Matt.
I've liked Stuart's work since I first saw it,
and more now.

Accuracy beats speed

I'm sure about the edge of that knife because i know Stuart's dedication to the steel!! The steel choice in this case is really spot on :thumbup:
The edge looks like has been really well honed
Congratulation for your new beautiful knife, and thanks for showing!!

Thank you, my good friend, Mr Gregory! (I thought you might post this in the "For Sale" section after you took one look at it!!! HA HA!!!!). It was an immense HONOR to make this for Matt. Guess what I got for that knife? Can I tell 'em, Matt? 'Cause I think that I got the better end of the deal!!!!!

Joe, I have two knives in Elmax going right now that should be identical to Matt's Blue 2. OAL is ~8.25". Blade is ~3.5". Handle is ~4.75". Blue2 is about .135" thick.

Nice clean hunter, Stuart, great looking walnut.

Congrats, Matt ! :)
