Hi all,

I haven't been spending as much time here lately, as I use too. I still pop in once in awhile to look at the pictures that are being shared, and see the latest additions to collections...

A few months back, I decided I was going to have my first custom hunting knife done. After working on the drawing for awhile, I sent it to Ryan Weeks. He is a member here, and has been doing some very nice work.

On Wednesday, he sent me the pictures of the finished product. There are a couple small details that deviated from the original drawing, but I think I am going to like it.
It is just about 8 inches overall, and the scales are stabilized Redwood burl that I found at Burl Source. Oh, the steel is 1095 :D

WOW!! That is nice..(green monster perched on shoulder).....Beautiful lines and i like the extra jimping up front too.....Tapered tang sets it off... Very cool.. FES

Wow that turned out really nice! Love that Redwood Burl and the fact you chose to use 1095 steel. :)

You must draw really pretty knives, because that one gorgeous. I love BurlSource, they consistently have beautiful product at a reasonable price.

What is the extra jimping up front for? Super nice looking knife. I really like the redwood burl and the contour of the handle.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments.
The jimping towards the tip is because, I almost always choke up on the knife, especially when working on a critter, and that is where my finger ends up.

ETA: I type slow. Fester beat me to it :D

A seriously good looking piece of cutlery
I've often admired Ryan's work, especially his WIP threads always give a good insight into the various details of his work.

Mr. FES, he knows knives inside animals. Heh.

Fantastic result, 338375. You must be so pleased to have your ideas and sketches become such wonderful 3-D reality. How rewarding, for both you and Ryan Weeks. Thanks for posting this one.

Well done sir! Your design is a beauty and this knife has so many nice fine touches to it. I love the spacer details and the contours of the handle especially. The overall shape is very pleasing and looks to be very ergonomic. Love those grinds and the slab support in the choil as well. A home run for sure with this beauty!

Very knice. I hope you have it on your hip the next time I run into you.
That is some ridiculously good looking wood.

Thanks for the compliments. I means a lot to me.

It was the first time, out of all the knives I have sketched over the years, I have been able too see the finished product.
Picking out the wood, was actually harder than doing the drawing :D Even with all the modern super steels available, it just wouldn't have been the same, if it wasn't 1095 :D

Very nice! Ryan does some fantastic work. He is working on one for me too, very excited to get it in.

Wow, nice-looking knife. Sure it's a great user too :)

Thanks Jack. Only 4 months until hunting season starts. Hopefully it will be a good luck charm :D

Great knife Mike, and good to see you posting here, love that Burl.

Thanks Duncan. IIRC, you were having some health issues recently. I hope all is well with you, and your family
