Here is my newest knife acquisition a John Grimsmo Norseman. It has gold honeycomb display side, with stone wash
Gold lock side. Toxic green thumb stud and purple spacers. What a thing of beauty. Lock up is very early but solid as a
Bank vault. Zero blade play in any direction with an razor sharp edge. This has to be one of the smoothest knives
I have ever owned. It has a lock bar over extension pin which works great. This norsemans birthday is 09/07/2012. What do you guys think about this knife? Should I keep the lanyard and bead on the knife, or remove it?

I like the Norseman, The lanyard is definitely a personal preference, I tried one on my EDC and removed it after a few days.
It just didn't serve any purpose for me since I don't use the knife everyday or consistently, If you use the knife a lot, Then the
lanyard would probably come in handy, I put lanyards on most of my fixed blades, Especially the larger ones.
As far as the bead, It is cool!! But I prefer different lanyard colors like orange, black or blue, But again, That's personal preference.
Congrats on the awesome knife!!!

I watched all the youtube videos chronicling the creation of this knife, I believe it took about 60 weeks. I especially like the blade design, the honeycomb cutouts, the pocket clip, and polished fit. The only thing that I don't like are the uneven milling grooves on the blade. I don't remember what the blade steel is, but I do remember John saying they where at least 60 RHC. I would use a different color lanyard, but that's me. Congratulations!

Congrats on the sweet knife, hope it serves you well. I'm personally not a lanyard guy but it's your call sir. Cheers.

Looks amazing, what steel does he use for these again? I can't remember. I do like that blade shape though, you don't see that every day.

I'd ditch the lanyard...or at least go with a different color, that red really clashes with the knife IMO.

Also, that knife is NOT what I had pictured when I was opening a thread about something called the Norseman.

While that blade shape doesn't do anything for me, congrats on the purchase nonetheless. Always fun and exciting to receive such a high quality piece of work.

I don't know that the blade profile is for me, but I love that honey comb handle. I agree the red may be a little much for the color scheme but only you can decide if a lanyard is for you or not. If you want a different color it's easy enough to swap to something else.

I agree the blade profile is not what I would expect of a blade called a "Norseman". I was expecting to see something akin to a Norse scramasax but it's still cool and I imagine slices quite well. The profile may even be less harshly received by general society without having a super defined sharp point.

Aside from that I also think the red lanyard colour clashes with the handle scales but the bead is awesome. Maybe switch to some black paracord?

Nice knife, johnroman8. Lose the lanyard. It has a clip already. I DO use lanyards on most of my fixed blades though. Mostly to secure it to my wrist, for all the obvious reasons.

Lanyard is gone. I just finished anodizing the display side flats a nice blue. Check out the pics and let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

Love the Norseman and need to add one to my collection.

I personally love every inch of this knife, especially the blade design.

I actually liked the red lanyard with bead on the knife, but that's my personal preference.

Hope she treats you well and enjoy carrying it.

If I had some cash, I'd already have put it down for one of these. I love watching his videos, cool from an engineering/design perspective.

So utterly jealous! Ever since I stumbled across their work I've been wanting to pick one up. Thanks for sharing!

And definitely go without lanyard, my opinion at least.

The Grimsmo brothers are celebrities in my eyes. I love watching his videos and seeing John conquer troubling logistical problems. The occasional screw-up is fun too. ;)
I am still unsure about recurves but his knives look to be exquisite and fun.

About lanyards... I could have gone either way until I saw a thread where someone had a mishap while manipulating a knife with a lanyard. When he moved his hand the lanyard caught on something and his hand slide onto the blade... Ooooouch. I'm somewhat anti-lanyard now.

Love those guys! I learn a lot from their videos and love their work! Your example is top shelf for sure!! Congrats!!

thanks. my new norseman is definately my favorite knife. i really like the recurve blade and the tanto style tip has already come in handy, overall design and shape fits my hand perfectly. very early lock up but still solid with zero play in any direction, the flipping action is one of the smoothest i have ever had the pleasure to handle. i know there are alot more expensive custom folders out there but in my humble opinion this is as good as it gets. everyone has there favorite and i think it is obvious what mine is. i already have my name down on john and erics list when they are ready to take deposits for there next batch.

Nice man. Just checking it out cause I'm the first one in line that John n Erik are now working on for the 4th batch run. It's run has the oval pivot screw with the Norseman helmet engraved on it. The new Oval shape, keeps the Helmet from rotating out of direction in case you've got to see his latest video. They get better with each run and I can't wait. Tell me, how's the flipping ? Great ? I'm sure... Question,, it doesn't allow the blade to just free fall or flop around after un hinging the lock bar does it ? Know what I mean ? If you turn it upside down, and unlock it, the blade doesn't just flop up and down does it ? Thanks man. Mark in Ky.
