I received this Turkish K. Kale 8MM Mauser a few days ago. It was a beauty. I did a lot of cosmolene removal and would like to show it off. Over all, this seventy dollar rifle is like new. The receiver has a real nice stamp and a date of 1941. It's one of my best C&R buys.

Thanks for looking.

Like our beloved Springfield 03A3, that's an honest to God battle rifle! Nice catch! O.K. I'll bite...what's C&R ?

Very clean! How's the bore? Do serials all match?

SOG? AIM? Whose izzit?

I've been avoiding Turks as I heard they can be a mess...

Clearly, this isn't so- that one's a beaut.

What's the K. Kale thing? Kale is cabbage :D

Now you need an unissued Perssian Mauser- Samco has them.

C&R is short for Curios and Relics. It is a 03 FFL, Federal Firearms License. It allows a holder to buy any firearm fifty years old or older.

In a nutshell a person gets forms from BATF and sends them in. The forms are a no brainer. No fingerprints, no photo, no notary, no nothing. It costs $35.00 for three years and is about the only gift I can think of from our government.

You can order firearms from dealers on the web, buy from gunshows, etc. with no paperwork other than handing over a copy of your license and paying for it. Dealers are allowed to deliver the firearm right to your house. You cannot buy and sell like a gunstore. You pretty much buy wholesale and it is aimed at people that like to collect guns.

This Turk came from SOG as a hand picked and I specified K. Kale. This was a real good deal. I feared I would receive another paper weight, but it's nice.

I forgot to answer you other questions!

I'll go look at SAMCO. I heard those Persians are nice.
Bore looks real good. I'll shoot it this weekend.
Non matching numbers, but aparently an arsenal refurb. The finish is like new and stock has to be new. The only finish on the stock seems to be COSMOLENE!!

But, cosmolene removal allows you to get to know your new rifle real well.

That is a super nice one. Thanks for the tip.

29" barrel, so longer than 98K... that's what made me think of the Persians:

Samco does have the market cornered on them and they are $$$ nowadays... here's a tip back at you: next time in Miami (5 hrs south) make an appointment to go to their warehouse "showroom."

Present them with an ink-signed copy of your C&R FFL, politely ask and you can hand-pick a rifle from many.

Ah, the wonders I saw there. Pallets & pallets of K31's, SKS; Mausers of every kind.... treasures. My next trip to Miami I hope to do just that, again.

The guy that helped me had a good eye for grading them. "What a collection you must have," I said.

He just smiled. "I don't even own a gun," he said.

AA, I didn't know I could actually go through pallets of rifles. Holy smoke!

You know, I have been looking for a destination to take a couple of days trip. A drive down to SAMCO for a day of hand picking sounds like fun that I could afford. I've got some time off due me..........

This sounds like just the trip. Are you in their area? We could go pallet picking.

This is a noteworthy heads-up on this one, Steve.

The Turks have been around forever; once source says they're done importing them... and so many look like junk. :( I never even wanted one.

These that SOG have appear to be a different batch; sometimes they send the best ones last. These are large ring Mausers with small ring barrels; great raw material for gunsmiths.

Dates appear to be WWII years... so when I ordered a hand-picked one, I requested late WWII. They were made up to 1946.

In the Swiss K31 and German Mauser K98's, the "K" is for carbine, though they never seemed short to me; these Turks are full-size rifles.

Closest thing to these in condition/size are Samco's full-size Persians- around $500 for an unissued.

These Turks? Just $60, add $10 for handpick. I never do that but Turks "can be a crapshoot." If these are that good to begin with, the best of 10... will probably look like Steve's.

It's funny you should mention "full sized" about the Turk. While cleaning mine up the darn cleaning rod was too short to clean from the breech. The patch wouldn't stick out of the muzzel. I never had that happen before so I had to clean it from the muzzel.

Never the less, my Turk is a sleek rifle. It feels good in my hands. I don't notice the longer barrel than say a M48.
