Hi, I have recently purchased new model of KM2000. Blade is 5mm thick. I want to say that N695 is a great steel but 440A used in KM2000 is very good. No matter what anyone say but the heat treatment is all that matters. I AM JUST UNABLE TO POST THE PICS OF MY KNIFE ON THIS FORUM COZ I AM A FREE REGISTERED USER. THATS SAD THAT I CANT SHARE WITH MY BROTHERS. I have got myself a Borkott Eicjhorn KM2K also. Both are good knife with strong tip, edge retention is good, serrations are good but the best thing is the handle and confident grip. 9/10 for this knife. Only thing is that it cant take razor edge as Ka-Bar due to steep angled blade geometry.

Original Eickhorn knows how to do their heat treat. They have a knife called GEK 2000(German Expedition Knife) made of a D2 Variant, it has been hammered through a car door several times - blade came out undamaged.

There is also a backup knive called Para which is made of "just" 440A and the revewiers were left in awe when they found out the sharpnes after all tests, including opening cans and so on.

I have a KM2000 by Eickhorn, not Waffentechnik in 440A. It's the exact one used by the Germany military. Really nasty point, but doesn't hold it's edge very well obviously
design is really cool, but handles can be slippery

My new KM2000 from Eickhorn:
I got this knife straight from Germany. Unlike its predecessor KM2000BW it has improved blade steel which is Bohler N695 stainless steel which is very much 440C steel with added Copper. A well tempered to hardness of 57-59, good edge retention and thick blade for strength. Grip is good and so is the sheath which is all Mil grade Vest compatible. Though its not yet issued to German army but gradually its being preferred and used by many soldiers. It can baton through woods, cut ropes, slice coconuts etc. A Glass breaker is at the end of handle. A good feature is that Blade can be detached if you unscrew it from the handle. It can be done for blade maintenance.. Blade is full tang and thick. Plain edge version is also available from Eickhorn, also a standard Leather sheath is available as special item from Eickhorn website. You can trust this knife. I am not advertising , buy one and see for yourself. Sharpening is a bit tough but hey once its done it will hold edge for long very low maintenance required. Use very fine whetstone for working the edges at 50 degree angle. A oil cloth is provided with the knife so as to keep the blade oiled and protected when not in field use. Serial number is mentioned on blade which will help you to know the manufacturing date of the knife. It is a standard design and one can have it as their primary knife. Usually I keep a Glock 81 alongside this knife.
