I finally got a new site! Have a look and let me know what you think. A major difference is I can update this one myself to keep it current. A few things will be changed and I am still working on it, but its ready enough to share.

Right now the site shows the basics and my collection which many of you have already seen.. But I am open to constructive criticism or any ideas you might have to make it better or more exciting.

EDIT

I put a general forum up on the site. I doubt it will have much movement but feel free to have fun with it. You do not need to be a member. I would encourage you to talk about details regarding certain things you see in knives. You can talk ivory, makers, things you like, anything.. you name it.

That looks very nice Jonathan!

Impressive collection! (Damn, I LOVE that Fuegen Push-dagger!)

Kind regards,

Jos

Hi Jon,

Boldly clear and a wonderful fresh addition. The black background is dramatic and enhances the work. All links work quickly, and it opened in my smartphone, iPad, and home browser.

Tell us about the editing process: Do you have a visual template to add and upload, or do you do this with text edits? I see you have a local (for you) hosting company. Friends?

However the process, being able to update work on your own is, as you now know, irreplaceable.

The Comments section is disabled for outside viewers. In case you weren't aware. That might be by choice.

One misstep: The text header: 'The Jon Brand Collection'
overruns onto the handle of the push dagger. If you can separate that (or give it a 1-pixel black border), so much the better.

Thanks for sharing, and your clean work!

Coop

The site looks very professional Jon - and the knives are just superb. You should be proud of both.

Roger

Coop, thanks for the heads up. Check the top banner now to see if the text overlaps. I have a friend who does websites and he set this basic template up for me and created the banner image. It was done with Word Press. I took over the job of adding all the photos and captions. I did not start the layout from scratch as my buddy got it going. I can easily however, add and change pictures and update the news feed. I know nothing about text or html so this is great! And my buddy can tweak up the parts that require that.

Thanks for your email, it came through properly. Also if you are referring to leaving comments on the news feed, it is now enabled. If you meant somewhere else on the site, let me know where!

Do you mind if I link your photography site in the links page?

Great website
Beautiful knives

What's not to like?

Most impressive collection for a kid born when I was a junior in high school...now I'm depressed :D
Nothing derogatory meant by the kid comment but if the shoe fits...
That is you in Jon Klein's photos of the "Two-Man Knife Show" held earlier this year isn't it?

You have ever right to be proud, again, beautiful collection!

Michael, I'm in one or two of those photos from the Mike Talanian/Jon Klein knife show/party. But I lost about 30 pounds since then. Is that the gallery you are referring to?

I like that a lot. You should be proud of having the oppertunity to own some of the best. Your web site is a plus to the knife community as a whole.
Thank you, Gary

Jon,

Look at that. How quickly you got service from another or changed things on your own. Perfect.

Co-joining you on your links page? Sure. Thank you.

Good stuff!

Coop

Jon, congrats, it looks awesome! I'm looking forward to doing something similar, as soon as I find some free time in between working two jobs, going to school full time and raising young kids! I'm curious what your web developer is using to organize the galleries? Is it a plug-in? What interface makes it easy for you to update the galleries yourself? I'm just asking because they look great. Another bonus for the knife community and increasing our exposure to the outside world. Thanks for going for it!

Balislinger- I am using Word Press to make this website. I am organizing gallerys and uploading the pics myself. The web guy just got the basics set up.

Just to help clarify. There is a difference in WordPress.org and WordPress.com although they share software.

WordPress.org for website builds.

WordPress.com for blogs.

It's smart to start with a provided template. I did on my site and modified it to suit my individual needs and displays. Jon's taking advantage of the same process, and the ability to easily update. For the average website we don't need more.

I like everything about it.
You can attach goggle analysis to it for free and track your hits to the site and run all sorts of reports.
I don't believe there's a country in the world where I don't have at least one visit to mine. Seems that way anyway.

I don't know much about building a site as my daughters surprised me with mine as a present last Xmas. I didn't have a clue they were putting it together.

The sites are pretty easy to maneuver in and update once you get the hang of it.

Keep up the enthusiasm Jon, you are doing a great job spreading the custom knife excitement and passion.

Thanks, Jon, Coop and Kevin. Those of you who are running Wordpress-based templates, can you share which template you started with that makes for such fine picture galleries? Thanks

I took the job over after the basic template was set up with a banner and the buttons (pages) I needed. I really don't know much about creating the sites, but I was taught how to add my photos and text. Some of the work on this site involved plugins and some HTML that I could not have done. I worked very closely with my webmaster to have it set up just how I wanted. We are still gonna tweak a few things and I'm sure the site is NEVER really done, but I'm real happy with it.
