I just received a custom Kydex sheath for my Mora Companion that I got on eBay from a seller named jessfish71. It was $28 delivered. As much I like the sheath that comes with knife (light, simple, easy to clean, decent retention, especially if you add a piece or cord through the belt loop as secondary retention), I find that is hangs too low on the belt and because the belt loop is rigid it is quite uncomfortable to sit with it on (I also find it ugly). I wanted something equally light and simple that rides higher on the belt. This looked like just the thing, and I like that it came with a belt loop, which many of the customs I have seen on eBay do not.
I like it. It is solidly built with excellent retention and sits comfortably on the belt (and I find it looks quite nice too). It sits high enough on the belt that sitting with it on is comfortable, the bottom of the sheath barely comes in contact with the surface I am sitting on. It weights 2.75 oz., which is 1.62 oz. more than the stock sheath, which for me is a negative because I like light weight gear. I see he has a taco sheath that is probably lighter weight, but that one doesn't come with the belt loop. As I mentioned above the retention is excellent, at first it is challenging to get the knife in and out of it and definitely took two hands: one to hold the sheath, and one to either pull the knife out or push it back it. After a few days of cycling it in and out regularly, it has loosened up enough to be just right. The blade fits very snugly between the two slabs of Kydex, basically both sides of the blade are in contact with it. It might almost be too snug if there is a lot of crap on the blade. This sheath will also be harder to clean than the stock one after re-sheathing a dirty knife. Overall it was an excellent buy and I am happy with it. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an upgrade to the stock sheath.
The pics are a lot smaller and lower resolution than I expected (still trying to figure out Imageshack). The fourth down is trying to show the drain hole in the bottom.
