To all those folks on this forum who know the situation, thanks for your support, prayers, concerns, and thoughts during my time in Iraq. My family and I extend our deepest gratitude to you and appriciate the use of this forum for a primary means of communication during my time w/o email. (Thanks Bladeforums and ATC!!)
In other news: I finally got home and what was waiting for me??? MY WIFE!!
and my Lance Hawk too
After all the kisses and hugs, I openned the package to discover...the most beautiful and grotesque looking axe/lance/halbred design ever!!
Man is this thing a beast!!
Here are the specs: H10, 3/8" thick steel, heat treated to 58 on the head and low 50s on the handle. The primary "knife/lance" edge is 6" long and 2" wide. The "axe/tomahawk" head is 3" long (along curve) and features sharpened hooking beak. The "piercing" edge is 3" long and features a sharpened spike for 2 1/2". The thing weighs in at around 3 3/4 lbs with G-10 handle slabs (which are bolted on using allen screws). The handle features an enscription: "CON TE PARTIRO" which is Italian for "I'll go with you." (Meaning this tool will "go with me" always...
It is slightly head heavy, but features 2 "hand hold" areas where the hands fit comfortably on the handle. The G-10 slabs are especially nice and are extremely comfortable in the hand. Justin did an amazing job of grinding the piece and though there are some spots that are rough (around the primary knife edge), his ability to even shape and grind something like this both surpasses my expectations and beliefs...
I am extremely happy with my lance hawk and, though I do not yet have a name for her, I do have a hunting trip planned. My brother, father, and possibly a Marine buddy of mine will be taking a trip in the next year (with luck!) to Flordia to hunt wild boar...with a tomahawk!!!
Hope you are all well and if you have picture requests, I would be happy to email you pics of the piece (as well as its construction, I have a lot of pics of the making of the lance hawk too!)
more later
God bless
Jess
Robert from Survival Sheaths did an amazing job of sheathing the beast too...The concealex rig is both easy to wear and comfortable, and thought the monstrosity rides a little funny in the sheath, the easy of removal is excellent!
