My very first Spyderco was a Manix 2 LW. While I loved the design, lock and ergos of it, I hated the steel and the fact I couldn't take it apart for cleaning and lubrication. Well today that changes. Just received my Manix 2 with custom micarta scales from my buddy wtlj. It is by far the coolest knife in my collection and I'm pretty sure my new favorite. Later I will post some knife porn for all you guys

Here she is in all her excellence

I like em. Met a guy that makes knives today. Thought about if I feel the weight is too much seeing about having him drill out the liners. Any thoughts on that?

Oh no! Another perfectly good pair of full steel liners headed for the drill!?!? :barf:

:D Seriously though, too each his own. I gobble up any of the older Manix knives that I can find with the full steel liners. You could swap liners with me! ;)

When did they start that. From the date on its box mine was made in 12/14

I'd have to say that that is not the right box for your knife. I believe the regular Manix has had skeletonized liners at least since the blade was changed from hollow ground to FFG...last summer or earlier. Which could mean that you have a Franken-Manix...FFG blade with full steel liners? I could be wrong.

No. My Manix 2 made in 1/15 is full liners.

And it came from Blade HQ.

Whoa! I'll need to double-check my collection. Good to know! I've mostly gone after the sprints (many of which are skeletonized) and have only a few regulars, so I must be confused. Definitely wouldn't be the first time!

Kudos to both of you for correcting me. I've clearly been carrying the Manix sprints with me too often! The regular Manix does still appear to have full steel liners! I looked at the sprints, and all of the following have skeletonized liners:

Moonglow (both runs)
Gray Cruwear
Tan M4
Black BD30P
Foliage Green XHP
Blue G-10

The only sprint/exclusive that I checked that had full steel liners was the pink one. I haven't checked the orange, carbon fiber, or stag arms versions. In any case, disregard my prior buffoonery!

No problem, it happens. Nice run down of Manix sprints and exclusives.

I had to finish the job...the orange, carbon fiber, and stag arms also have skeletonized liners, so that leaves only the pink Manix sprint with the full steel liners. I never made that observation before, but at least I feel a little better about the source of my earlier confusion!
