Some of you may have seen Matt Bailey’s knives offered from time to time over in the Maker’s For Sale Forum. You also may have seen the article in the current issue of Blade Magazine on Matt and Sean O’Hare. A good read if you have not seen it.

I notice Matt’s ‘Pocket Fixed-Blade’, really liked his design and asked him if he would create one for me in his Damascus. It’s really a sweet little general purpose carry knife that comes with a non-clipped ‘pocket’ sheath. This sheath easily and comfortably slips into the back pocket and feels about like carrying a wallet. It even slips nicely into a front pocket of your jeans.

This is really a fine and handy little knife at a very good value. As you can tell from the photos, the piece has a well-executed palm swell making it very comfortable in hand and a tapered tang. The blade is as sharp as a razor.

OAL- 7.5”
BL-3.5”
Matt’s Forged 360 Layer Random Pattern Damascus
Premium Desert Ironwood scales
Mosaic pins

A very nice little knife/sheath package:

A nice and handy size for EDC:

Tapered Tang:

A very ergonomically executed palm swell/handle shape:

As always, I thank you in advance for your participation and your opinions are appreciated.

Nice score Kevin. I have several of Matt's knives and they are all high quality. His full tang handles feel great in the hand.

Matt does some fine work and his leather is awful nice, too....nice set, Kevin. :)

Nice knife. I've been wondering about his work since reading the article. I knew OHare but was not familiar with Matt Bailey. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like an excellent EDC and caper

Thanks for posting up and usual you have excellent taste

I have a similar pocket fixed blade by Mr. Bailey. It's slightly smaller with a W2 blade and an ironwood handle. The knife is beautiful, practical, and a razor. I also have a San Mai cable and cruforge edc with a jigged bone handle by him. It's obvious that Mr. Bradley takes great pride in his work which is a boon for his customers. He makes a great knife.

Form meets function

looks perfect for its intended role....with a little ironwood/Damascus "bling" factor

That's one of Mr. Bailey's most graceful blades that I've seen. He's a very skilled maker, congrats on your acquisition!

Very cool EDC. Looks like it is really comfortable in the hand. The materials look great and love the sheath.

Thanks for posting, Kevin. Read the article in Blade, cool to see this example of Matt's work.

Nice pick up, Kevin.
As you mentioned, bet it's a great carry package.

Dan, is this the one? It's the one that really got me interested in Matt's work.

Anyone, please feel free to share your Bailey knives here.

Kevin, its a nice one and its fun to buy users from time to time to enjoy. I've been doing that on and off and get just as much pleasure as I get with plain old collecting.

Since this is a review, I'd like to know how it works!

The sheath is a good concept. When I drop a folder (with out a clip) into my pocket it drops sideways which is very awkward in the pioc

Kevin,
Yes, that is the pocket knife that I have. I am glad that you took notice of it and had your knife built. Mr. Bailey is really a fine craftsman and both the knives that I received from him are very, very sharp.

Yep, I've always liked the pocket sheath concept. I have another small EDC by Will Leavitt with a very similar sheath. It basically just holds a knife secure and safely in the pocket as opposed to hanging on a belt. I don't usually wear a belt when just bumming around in jeans so this type carry works well for me.

Thanks guys for the comment!!!
