I recently spotted a real cool new design from Matt of ML knives and knew that I had to have one for my recent camping trip.Knowing how busy Matt was filling orders etc I asked him if he do me a special favour and just send me a bare blade and I would improvise a handle so that I could take it camping. Now Matt does not usually do this and only sells finished blades but for some reason he felt sorry for this Canadian knife junkie and said he would as long as I kept it off the forums.Anyway after seeing how pleased I was with this little fella he said it is ok to talk about it now so here it is.....

This was my first attempt at a handle so yeah it's very rough:o but it came out exactly as I had wanted it to and it feels awesome.....

Although just under 6 1/4" overall with a 3" blade this knife was the only knife I actually used on my camping trip, it made fuzz sticks (man this thing cuts through wood like a hot knife through butter),I made a spoon( although a rough one,lol...no fault of the knife) it cut and sliced all our food items and was also used for other small tasks cutting cordage, opening packets etc !

Matt calls this knife a Sgian Dubh although to me it resembles a perfect bushcraft knife profile.

If ya can't tell I love this little knife !!!!:D:thumbup:

its an awesome little blade! I got to handle it (hahaha) when i met Pitdog this week! Almost a cross between a Puuko and a small spear point bushcraft blade.

very nice blade from ML, with custom scales by Pitdog!

Cool blade and a cool project!

What kind of wood did you use? I like the two-tone look with the sapwood.

Very nice little knife. Looks like it can handle any camp chore.

I really, really like knives in this size range. My "do everything" knife is a similar size, 3" blade 6 1/2" OAL.

I actually used a Hickory hammer shaft, I have no power tools ( except a drill:rolleyes:) so I could only hand shape it, for that reason I had to make things as simple as possible !!!!:o

Great looking little backup knife! Nice job on the handles, I like barrel shaped scales.

I've just discovered an awesome way of carrying it as well, I'll try and get a pic tomorrow.....wait till ya see this !

That in-hand shot mkes it alot bigger than would have initailly thought. Cool little blade though, and good work on the handle

Maybe my hands are small, LOL !

The blade is virtually the same length as an average SAK blade but obviously wider !

ummm Pit? , ya do realise dont ya that you took the first step on that slippery slope that is going to see you pounding out your own blades before too long ??

it often starts with just sticking a handle on , then you get to thinking about trying to make your own blades ... seek help , quick.
