hey folks.. just thought i would share a few pics and initial impressions of my new ML custom woods knife, that arrived a few days ago..
i had seen a knife that Matt had made, very similar to this one, on his site.. for some reason, i was instantly drawn to it... it sort of reminded me of a scaled down version of an old butcher knife, meets a nessmuk.. i had to have one.. i gave Matt a call and had him make a few adjustments, and a few weeks later, this beauty arrived..
when i pulled it out of the box, i was instantly blown away.. this thing is awesome..the fit and finish on it are perfect and it is wicked sharp.. i have a few other knives from Matt, all of which are solid users and i'm sure this one will be no exception.. it is just about the perfect knife for me.. it has been seeing a lot of kitchen duty since i got it...
being the home/camp cook, (like Pitdog) i have always prefered knives with a deep/wide belly, due to their cutting abilities and usefullness in food prep., as well as skininng and game processing.. this knife doesn't have the sharpest point out there, but it'll slice and cut all day long.. it is 1.5 in. at it's widest point..
some specs:
- 1/8 thick. 1095 steel.
- 8" in. overall length.
- 4" in. blade.
- 4" in. handle.
- big copper pins and lanyard hole.
- aged black walnut sclaes.
now on to the pics...
Matt's pic he sent me upon completion..
nice hand filling scales, with a slight forward taper..
this thing feels great in my (med. sized) hands.. it's super comfortable..
not only does Matt make amazing knives, his leather-work is top notch as well.. i was really impressed with how this one turned out.. the knife knife sits in nice and deep, and has a snug fit..
and another final pic, with my new BunnyBuster, flatband slingshot, which happens to also be made out of black walnut... i am set for an stroll through the woods with this combo..
here's another rustic looking knife i scored last april, it makes a great companion knife to this new ML.. this one was made by Ca. knifemaker Chuck Stapel.. this is a handy little knife.. the elk scales are super comfortable and just mold right into your hand..
thanks for looking folks...
cheers.. Mike
