always been a big fan of neckers, but have never owned an Izula. when I discovered there was an orange one out I broke down :)

added ~ 8' of 550 for the handle wrap and included a slider so the lanyard is adjustable and when the slider is pushed up just two strands hang so no loop to catch on anything

I got a kydex sheath from forum member Hoopster, fit/finish is very nice, wrapped it w/ ~ 15' of 550 and have it so I can easily adjust the length of the neck lanyard

added a few bits, 1/4" firesteel, two tinder-quicks (flattended), Fox micro whistle and photon light (light setup so that I can use it while still on the sheath- just lift the sheath and squeeze)- all secured w/ a small section of ranger band (inner tube)

nothing elaborate, but in the unlikely event of getting separated from my pack- I should be able to get a fire started, erect a rudimentary shelter and have the ability to signal

the kit is compact and flat; and light enough (4.7 oz) that you don't even know it's around your neck

Good stuff MT. You do like your neckers.

Nice paracord work too. Looks like a nice kit.

I have a couple small kits that are ready, I just need a couple more pocked fixed blades to accompany them.

Nice kit

thanks gents

most definitely :) I find they really serve my backpacking niche very well- food prep, small wood prep (use a wood stove), cleaning fish & fowl being it's major duties- perfect for a small fixed blade

when the weather starts to turn I'll carry a little larger blade and add a saw (and often an axe)

^ start saving your pennies, I heard a rumor that an orange Izula II was in the works :D

^ Ha! Great. Living in the poor house. Luckily I'll have a bunch of cool knives to keep me company. :D

Looks good/practical MT.
I have a weakness for black/orange combo too. Easy to spot when misplaced.
So, what what happen to your old necker?

Looks like its Pict (Mac) inspired

Nice kit

most definitely, as have been my previous "kits" as well :)

hard to tell in the pics, but it's actually OD :) which one, I've had a slug of them :D I'll probably come to regret it, but over the last couple of years I've traded all of them off here and there- I've been fortunate in that all have been very good knives (Fallkniven, Landi, Koster, JK, Gossman) and the only reason I've moved on to one knife over the other is simply try a new knife out. if my luck eventually runs out on choosing a good neck knife, I certainly know where to go to get a good one :)

put the knife/kit on a little diet- got rid of the 550 wrap on the handle - 0.5 oz, replaced the 550 on the sheath w/ 2mm Spectra (rated @ ~ 200 #'s) which also added a few additional feet due to it's smaller diameter -0.5 oz, nixed the tinder quicks and replaced them w/ 3 firestraws + a gram or so
