I just received my first Nighthawk in the mail, and I really like (almost) everything about it. Great feel and great price!

My only concern, however, is the pointy tip on the end of the blade seems a bit on the thin side. My initial impression is that if it were dropped on a hard surface floor it might bend fairly easy. Has anyone experienced a problem with theirs?

It's my understanding that a thin tip was the same flaw/weakness that doomed the famous Buckmaster survival knife (besides it being too heavy). I would think Buck would have learned a lesson since.

Could this thin tip also be the reason why the Nighthawk lost out to the SOG Seal knife during military trials? I do know tip strength was one of the categories during testing.

Don't take me wrong with my comments above, guys! The Nighhawk is a great knife overall. For the money, it's probably the best tactical fixed blade on the market.

I've already subjected it to several cutting tests, and not only is it razor sharp and capable of performing a multitude of tasks, but the handle is one of the best "non-slip" grips I've ever seen.

The tip on the Nighthawk holds up very well under normal use.
Dropping it on a hard surface, such as concrete or metal would probably raise a bur or cause some damage but the same would happen with almost any other knife.

The reason the SOG 2000 beat out the Nighthawk in the "SEAL Trials" was that it wasn't serrated and didn't have a lanyard hole. Sharpness was a factor back then too since this was before Edge-2000.

My tip has already broken. Not even sure how I broke it as it's one of my multi-use truck knives. Work, BBQ's, loaner, etc. Just 1/8 inch or less of it. I'm certain Buck will replace it, but I'll just wait. Between my son's and me, we probably have 15-20 Bucks and we're all equally adept at destroying things so it might not be long 'til we have a couple to send in. I don't hesitate to recommend this knife though. Very good bargain.

i have just recieved my nighthawk and its great, all except the black oxide finish, it seems to be wearing off near the sharpened part and some of the sharp corners on the blade. my question is, does the warranty cover this?

I have yet to see ANY blade from any manufacturer with a similar coating (short of the more expensive Tungsten DLC - even that I haven't seen put to hard use  ) that does not wear... this is normal in use for a knife like this. The Nighthawk is stainless, so I really wouldn't worry about it. It just says that this knife has been loved!:D
