the wife and i were visiting an old friend of ours while we were out snowmobile riding last sunday, he's 68 yrs young and makes knives and sheaths and such. we were talking about sheath making (which he is going to teach me to do) and he was showing me some of his latest work. then i asked about an axe sheath so he showed me one he made for his elk hunting/woods bumming hatchet. lo and behold it was an old norlund hatchet. while i was marvling at it and drooling on it he said he thought that he had another head just like that "somewhere in the shed". we (he) found it and said "here ya' go". i tried to pay him for it but he would have none of that.
he said he'd had it for 30 yrs or so and it was given to him by an old man that had never used it. thus it has never been used, so it seems (the edge looks factory). he said that he had to clean it up a bit when he got it because it was a little rusted.
it means more to me than anything because such an old friend gave it to me. i will hold on to this one for the rest of my life. now i've just got to find a handle
enjoy the pics
thanks
