I spent the day wandering around antique stores with my wife, and found a few things myself :-)
The 8ot appears to have never been sharpened.

The shell handled jack is a hammer brand, and the other two are imperial. I know I should be able to date the imperial knives roughly with the tang stamp, but I don't know anything about hammer brand. All four came to about the same price as dinner for two at a&w. I think I did good

I think you did GREAT, W.M.B.!!:thumbup: I've never had a hunt as successful as yours; I think I should head to the Hesperia area! :D:D I just looked up this Imperial/Hammer Brand tang chart for someone else, so here's a link if you're interested:

Have fun cleaning those guys up and carrying them!:cool:

Thank you very much, 5K qs! The imperial knives both have the 36-55 stamp, and the hammer brand has 45-55.
Do you know of any method for dating the o.t.?

Also, I found them up north, in Beulah. There is an antique store in an old mill building down town.
The building itself is pretty cool. I wish I had taken a picture, but alas, I did not.

I do not sell knives, and I don't buy particularly valuable knives. I carry the ones I buy, and don't think of them as an investment or any such thing. The only value my collection has is the enjoyment I get out of carrying them or showing them off, say, in the "What traditional knife are you carrying"thread. That being said, I'm having a hard time bringing myself to sharpen the 8ot. I know it's not in particularly good condition, from a collectible stand point, but still, I don't think it's been sharpened yet....seems kind of wrong to sharpen it.
I'm sure in a day or two I will get over it, and sharpen it up and drop it in my pocket. The other the got crazy sharp, really easy, and I'm going to enjoy carrying them.....
There must be something wrong with me :-)

That sounds like my attitude in many ways. But my hoarder brain would probably carry the 8OT for a while, sharpen and clean it up "just right", then hoard it away for "future use".

Anyway, not much collector value in USA Old Timers but they are going up in what some people want for them.

That's a great haul. I likes me an 8OT.
