I swear this is the LAST time I will post this picture link.

http://www.tech-line.com/hockit/sak.JPG

But I swore that I would never ditch my mostest favoritest goodest Spyderco Native III.

Until....I pulled out my 2 yr old Victorinox One Hand Trailmaster. The OHT....was....my be-all/end-all knife when I got it. But those lumpy glumpy serrations and the ROUNDED tip just didn't do it.

So I got the Spydie. I was a happy man.

Until......I got the (belated) idea that I could take OFF the serrations on the SAK. Wahoo! Cudda saved some money! (But had one less knife)

Now....really an truly cross-my-heart, I have made the SAK into my CURRENT most favoritest-for-life folding EDC knife.

The blade tip is now POINTY. It is politically correct enough to convince knife-sissies that I ....really....need the screwdriver and the awl.

But...I even use the SAW. Used it once, but that counts don't it?

Now, ta-da, I got a pointy sharp knife blade that can whittle without plowing furrows. It can sharpen a pencil or pierce an abdomen (not that I ever think of that)

And if you take out the blade and the screwdriver (both liner-locked on opposite ends) ..AND..take out the Phillips head screw thingie, and use an icepick grip, you gots a fistful of pointy, hurty things that scare even me. Aikido stick w/screwdriver, blade stickin out the fist, and Phillips out the knucks. Yowzie!

And it all looks so innocent.

It won't cut as STRONG as the Spydie due to thinner blade, but it sure works for the stuff I ....really.....do like cut drip irrigation line and open letters.

$27 has retired my "better" knifesies.

I am done for.

:) ;) :D

Hi Lavan,

Did you take down the serrations yourself, or did you have someone do it for you? Also, was a belt sander, grinder used or was it done by hand? I really like the way it turned out.

Mike

Careful use of a file to take the teeth .... a l m o s t.....all out.
Then a balls to the wall session on a coarse whetstone using same angle as to sharpen. Which also took the remaining vestiges of the serrations out.
Then a normal Sharpmaker session and ended up with a blade sharper than any other I own.

BUT..

I didn't photo the OTHER side that has the .....SCRATCH.....where I slipped on the whetstone. Just ONE scratch...but....DAMMIT!

:)

Take care and it wouldn't have happened.

My confession for the day.
