Yes, the scales were flame anodized and then boiled in Oxiclean. After doing this a few times, and trying to 'improve' upon my own results, I'm giving up, on Oxiclean. For me, it's too tough to control it's results. If cooked too long all the colors get washed out. The boiling process forms a skin-like film that's impossible to re-color by flaming again. It just won't take any color. The surfaces all have to be re-sanded. I think, I got lucky with the back scale. I like the look of it, and am leaving it as is. The top I've totally redone - came out GREAT!!! It was sanded to a mirror finish, bead blasted, and I flamed the edges to darken them. No more Oxiclean for me, but honestly if it isn't over done, it's not a bad way to darken Ti.
