Well, the wait is over. (and it wasn't a long wait, either) I sent a design to Gene Ingram for my outdoor utility knife. It's not really a survival knife, as I don't plan to get into any survival situations. :p But, I wanted it to be plenty tough just in case it has to function in a survival situation. It's 3/16 S30V and Micarta. I've already goofed around with it a bit, and it's just fantastic so far. It has the typical Gene insane sharpness, and at 59RC it's doing a great job of keeping it. I've done a little chopping on a hard oak pallet and it's very tough. Just what I had in mind, and I love it. Here's some pics:

It's about 9" overall. The blade is about 4". It's got a rather long handle but I wanted it that way.

Good idea. I have only medium sized hands and consider most handles a tad too short. Bigger handles even on folders feel better to me.

I've got an Ingram on my list!

Hi for my this is the way the handles must be soft and clean lines with no hotspots and long long........
The knife looks very usefull an d a real workhourse

I like how he still have some curves in that handle. Still has his style but in your design. Good job!

Here is a shot of a forum member that uses his B.Goode kitchen knife out in the field :D I think it was even 3/32" stock.

Do you make sheaths?

Nope, I don't. I didn't show the sheath in the pictures; Gene's sheaths are great but the one I got with this one is just the regular fold over loop sheath.

Hey,.. that simple foldover sheath is good and user friendly. I make mostly pouch sheaths and like them because of the one handed operation! :D

Man, UnixDork. I just wish my computer desk looked that neat and organized. :D

(Nice knife too! An incredibly clean design.)

Great knife. I especially like the longer handle.

Very strange looking "forum member." I see the eyes and mouth. Where are the ears?

Unixdork,
That is a great looking knife, I especially like the Spear Point and longer handle. Gene Ingram makes a superb knife, easily as nice as Dozier in my opinion. Excellent!

Please let us know how it works in the field. . . .

Brain,
that "kitchen" knief looks very, very nice as well. Being that thin and with a wide flat ground balde, I bet it really is a good slicer. Those knives look like they would make an excellent tool kit.

I've been using the knife in the kitchen since I got it, and it's doing great. I anticipate using this knife for food prep while camping or backpacking so I gave it a spin here at home. My only reservation about the design was the thickeness of the blade causing trouble with slicing but I've had no problems so far. It doesn't slice like a chef's knife of course, but it's just fine on vegetables and meat.

This fall I plan on doing some more camping and I'll post an update then. I'll take it deer hunting as well even though I have a dedicated Ingram hunting knife. Thanks everyone for the interest.

That's one sweet looking knife. I like Gene's work very much and have several of his "standard" knives myself. The extra length in the handle was a great idea.

Have you tried any woodcarving with the knife? I ask as I was wondering how it would fair as a bushcraft tool.

Cheers,

Tony
