Executive summary: What a knife! GREAT JOB in this one, Spyderco!
Just received my Paramilitary 2 this morning, from New Graham (Annie is a pleasure to deal with - a true gem).
My observations are:
- This is still a Paramilitary, with its distinctive shape. Good!
- Blade is very sharp out of the box, with a thoothy edge.
- The G10 is my favorite Spyderco kind; very grippy but not aggressive. Handle edges are nicely rounded.
- Blade is not perfectly centered, but it does not touch the handle. The screws are well tightened.
- Very slight horizontal blade play, no vertical blade play.
- Very smooth action...like "Sebenza" smooth. The ball detent, located on the lock bar, keeps the knife closed securely.
- Nice nested liners (they look thick and tough), with large holes machined in them to reduce weight.
- Comfy handle, no hot spot for me, and a nicely sized finger choil. My thumb sith comfortably on the ramp. Ergo is spot on.
- Nice jimping on the thumb ramp and choil; very grippy without being uncomfortable on longer use (more testing on that in the upcoming days).
- Nice shiny clip (I like), rounded edges, holds the knife securely in my jeans.
- The clip is positioned tip down. I'll try changing it to tip up, just to see what the pocket real estate looks like. I normally prefer tip up; we'll see.
- With the clip tip down, enough knife sticks out of my pocket to easily pintch it out with the help of the clip screws. Excellent.
- Blade spine is nicely squared and works very well stricking my firesteel. This is important for me if I plan on carrying it in the woods.
- Exactly the size I like (4.75" closed, 8.25" opened), same size as the large Sebenza, a tad bigger than the Griptilian.
- Some more numbers: 0.1445" blade thickness on the micrometer. 0.457 handle thickness. 3.7 oz on my postal scale (106 gr). 14mm hole.
- Steel is CPM S30V; I wonder what's the hardness is on this one? I'll see how the edge hold up to normal use (whittling wood, kitchen, edc duty) in the next week or so.
- Screws torx size: T6 for the clip, T8 for the handle, T10 for the pivot.
- Both Sal and Eric signature logos on the blade; how nice is that!
- Best of all: $106. Are you freakin' kidding me? Best bang for your buck bar none!
Summary: What a knife! GREAT JOB in this one, Spyderco!
Enough jabbering; picture time!
