My Rat5 has been promptly shipped from Cumberland Knife Works. I can't wait to see it. Does anyone know anything about the Rat5?

I don't even know what it looks like. Is it just a five inch version of knives like the RAT-7 and RAT-3?

Here it is

Is this going to replace the TAK1. I was going to get a TAK, but then i saw the rat-5, and thats what i want now.

post pics when you get it, and tell us how you like it :D

All I know right now is what I read on the rat forum. It sounded like a great knife from the reviews I read. I like 1095 steel.

1095 is a good steel but be sure to keep it oiled to prevent rust. Really love the looks of those rats.

The pic on Cumberland's website shows the RAT-5 with a sheath that looks just like that one, Fink.

Don't ask me how but my Rat5 was waiting when I came home! I just ordered it Friday. The Rat5 is an awesome knife. It is built like a tank. The F&F of the blade/handle is perfect and the grind lines are nice and even. It will readily shave hair. I wanted a knife that would be up to any task and I feel like I have just that.

I gave it a workout in the yard cutting back branches and brush. It did well but S30V has me spoiled. The 1095 steel does hold an edge well though. It chopped through two inch branches like a compact hatchet thanks to its heft. I even threw it at dandelions for fun. It is pretty easy to throw and stick. The parker finish is hell to get clean. The dirt really embeds into the finish.
The sheath is not my cup of tea at all. It is not worthy of this excellent knife. It is like the sheath on the Pakistan specials. I made a kydex sheath for it.
If I were a soldier going to Iraq I would be happy to have this knife. It is one tough knife.

@redhawk44p

Can you please tell me when your last contact with Bill from Cumberlandknifeworks was?

I preordered a Rat5 on March 2nd
got an email on April 8th that they are ready to ship
ordered one on April 10th and haven't heard anything from him since then...

Thanks

Hannes

Am I correct in assuming it doesn't have the big ugly logo on the blade?
I like it.

No logos on the blade.

Pietje010 the cutting edge is just over 4.5 inches.

Wow, RAT-5 fever has struck the forum.

Can't say I blame everyone.

I really like the look of the RAT/TAK knives. I am buying a John W. Smith framelock this Friday, but if I have enough money left over, I am going to buy a RAT-3 as well.

I like the smaller size of the RAT-3 to the RAT-5.
