I just received my new black RC-4 and all I can say is WOW! I took a couple of minutes to look it over before I started using it to prepare dinner and I can't believe how good the fit and finish is. I really like the way it fits my hand and look forward to using it in the woods. This is my second RAT, the first was an Izula that I EDC everyday in my back pocket. Now I'm trying to decide whether to go for the RC-3 next or get the RC-6. After tonight I think I may get an RC-6 and keep it in the kitchen full time.

On quick question, I use a product called Eezox for corrosion protection on all my firearms and and knives and have had excellent results. Anyhow, when I finished using the RC-4 tonight I wiped it down with Eezox and managed to get it all over the gray micarta handles. Now they are black ... does this happen with other lubricants as well. Every time I see a photo of a black RAT the handles always look gray. Am I the only person that gets lubricants on the handles? I'm sure that 409 or Fantastic would make the micarta look gray again but it actually looks kind of cool.

from my limited expeirence...less than a week...any liquid will be absorbed into the handles turning them darker

edit...

much like wiping down a busse handle w/ mineral oil to bring the color out. i guess it would be true of any synthetic handle though

For some reason it never dawned on me that the only areas which need to be oiled are the cutting edge and the laser engravings, the PC areas should not need it, Duh! Before I started using Eezox I used RIG on everything, it works great but it stays greasy. Here is an article on corrosive inhibitors that I found pretty interesting http://www.6mmbr.com/corrosiontest.html

Thanks for the post and using our knives, Greg!
