These are my new Rough Riders, got them for my birthday.
The muskrat is sweet. sawcut bone handles in rich tobacco brown, though my photo doesn't do it justice. Fit and finish is wonderful. The knife has heft and solidity, a real pleasure to handle. Blades snap open and shut with authority, thanks to good strong backspring. Very sharp out of the box. Closed length is 3-5/8". Blades are 3". This knife is every bit as solid as my Case muskrat. Haven't used it a lot as yet, so can't judge the edge retention. I love it.
The barlow is a beauty, too. Same fine fit and finish, satisfying heft. The only disappointment is that the backspring is wimpy on the big blade. The blade does not snap open and shut with authority and firmness. It's weak and I don't feel I can trust it not to close on my fingers.
I'd be interested if any members have a Rough Rider barlow and whether they have the same problem, or if I just got the one that slipped through quality control.
Of the five Rough Riders I own, this Barlow is the only one that has a weak backspring. The springs on my large toothpick and large canoe are excellent. So this problem on the barlow was unexpected.
