Just got my first CR one-piece and it's a beauty! My pictures are horrible, so please take them with a grain of salt. :D This is a South African Sable III that I got from a fellow member. It's number #153 and sports a 4 inch upswept blade, hex cap, and a pancake sheath. It's a really nice blade, and soon to see some action as one of my trusty camp knives. I just need to make her some nice kydex pants. So far, I really like it. It feels and fits my hand very well, and it's got a nice heft to it. I'm looking forward to seeing how the A2 performs in the field.

Now just don't tell the Busse guys I have a fixed blade in something other then INFI! :D

(Also, thanks to Jules and Ducci  )

That's super sweeeeeeeeeeeet! I know you will love it as an EDC. And if you don't ...send it to me for proper disposal!:D

Sable III. My favorite knife. I really need a backup ...
are you sure you like yours enough to want to keep it?

Great score, brother. And don't worry about the hogs.
INFI is too good to need to be jealous.

:D

Out of everyone here, I just knew you two were gonna post. :D Thanks again for the info Jules, I can't wait to get out and use it.

Esav, I figure after reading your posts about your Sable III, I can at least use this one for kitchen duty! :p

What I like about this Sable (beside the length. I love the 4 inch blade) is that the spine is thick all the way to the tip and doesn't really taper off. Makes for a very robust knife.

Robust it is. It looks and feels lightweight, but it is strong, and has slashed through a few dry old branches. :)

It also sharpens up quickly. It's hardly worth setting up the Sharpmaker for the few strokes it takes to get a great edge back on it.

Cool, good to know. I'm looking forward to using Reeve's A2 and seeing how it performs. Do you guys find that the edges tend to roll before they'd chip out? I guess I'm just wondering how brittle the edge is. (Not that there should be any reason I'd roll or chip and edge, but we know these things happen sometimes. :D )

Absolutely true!!

Besides, if it's a sin to be a Piglet and own a CRK ... then I've been a bad, bad boy indeed.

Anything Jules likes has to be good.:D:thumbup:;)

EDIT: Haven't noticed much chipping on the edges of my one-piece knives. There is some, generally quite small. I must admit that the Busses get most of the ridiculously hard duty, though.

I love my Busses, but I can't say I'm not drawn to CRK! Chris's stuff has stood the test of time, and is still at the top of the class as far as I'm concerned. It was just time for me to spread a little fixed blade love. (sidebar - I can't believe the Sebbie is 21 this year!)

I've been searching through this forum lately and finally settled on something in the 4-5.5 inch range, mostly out of my liking blades of that size for camp/day-hiking EDC. I was looking for something in the current lineup, but thanks to Ducci, I landed this fine knife. I appreciate all the help and feedback guys. I'll keep everyone posted as I use it and see how it works out.

While I wouldn't go around using a 4" hollowground blade as an axe, I have chopped at some hard wood and thorns with the Sable III. No chips. After the heaviest use, I had to touch up the edge to shave tomato and onion, though. :)

I see Strider ,CRK and Busse as the big 3 in high end production knives. Their are great other ones like Barkies and Fallkniven and even spyderco's high end stuff but for sheer rep power they are the big 3 like GM, Ford and Toyota.

Also check with Jason (Gravelface). He's got one of my loaner CRKs ... a very nice Jereboam II. I imagine he's beaten the very devil out of it and has a tale or two to tell! :)

What do you mean don't tell the Busse people Dan:D

That's a great find! I love the 4" size and the Sable Blade design
One from South Africa at that:thumbup:

Yup, can't wait to get out and use her. Just got some firesteels the other day, so I'm making up my hollow handle package and just waiting on some more kydex so I can make a new sheath for her.

Great snag. That was my first choice in the one piece line for a 4" blade, gorgeous curves, but I prefered the pancake sheath such as above that I went for the Shadow III.
