When I got home, Heather informed me that a little bundle of joy was waiting for me on the table. This came as a bit of a shock to me, since she wears fairly tight-fitting clothes and hasn't been showing at all. It all became clear, however, when I found a box from Wausseon on top of some other, far less interesting mail.
I have to think that this knife is what cavemen had in mind when they were chipping at their pieces of flint. I would describe it as about perfect for an "everything" kind of knife, for a small one anyway. I actually like the length on this one more than the Bog Dog, as having the slightly shorter blade makes the 1/8" full flat grind feel more stout. It has a VERY sharp point, and in fact might not be my first choice for skinning, as I think it'd have a nasty habit of stabbing through the hide, but I can tell it'll pick splinters like nobody's business. Ergonomics are very very good, which surprised me a bit--I wasn't sure about the front finger groove but it's so gradual that it doesn't wrench your fingers apart, and the fit/flushness of the scales to the tang is perfect all the way around.
Sheath was in desperate need of oil--our Swamp Skin Suppliers need to settle on a happy medium, as my Bog Dog sheath was drenched with oil.
But, a little Lexol is sitting on it now, and I think it'll be happy by tomorrow. Nonetheless, it holds the knife very securely and seems very sturdily stitched--I think it'll last a long time.
I think this will be an incredible EDC if your local laws permit, as it's essentially a fixed blade Buck Folding Hunter with much better steel. I will happily take this little guy wherever I can--it may be a serious contender for the Camp Tramp as my favorite Rat, which is saying something. I think a drop point version would be very neat too, but this is definitely a home run.
