Well,
I have been very interested in the idea of 1 knife to do it all..and after much searching..this is my new favorite.
Cold Steel San Mai Recon Scout.
Its well balanced, and handles well. I dont mind the guard really, it works for me. Overall, I am digging the convex edge on this bad mother.
I had a different custom sheath for it..but decided I wanted something Old School for the pants..I ordered a Savage sheath for it. Very well done.
I made the firesteel for it. I had a Kiah 1/4 inch firesteel loop laying around, and had some 1/4 inch ferociam rods...thanks to TonyM. I added a brass tube with JB weld and drilled it out for a key ring loop.
All in all, with the stone, its a winner package for me.

I agree that the Recon Scout is a good all around, handle almost anything knife.I really like that set up as well!!

You meet Sasquatch out in the woods, and he is in deep *&%#. ;)

Like the sheath. Gives it a great "old school" look, and most importantly..... should work very well for you. Congrats........

That's a great set up Gene. How does it compare to the NL series from Fallkniven? I know you have or have had a couple of those.

I like the San Mai knives from Cold Steel a lot. There is nothing wrong with the NL Series from Falkniven, in fact..they are VERY nice knives..but I am going for practical / bang for the buck.
I give either one a big thumbs up.
I even like the Master Hunter in Sanmai, its almost 1/3 the cost of the NL4.
And can do everything the same.
I will say the NL series "LOOK" much nicer.
Thanks everyone for the comments.

OUTSTANDING ! I've been considering a similar set up with a San Mai SRK. And really love the firesteel set up.

good work & a real practical choice. this knife would be my pick if i did'nt already have that base covered.--love the hand stitching on the sheath, one really needs to make at least one sheath to appreciate the effort.--dennis
