My new Sebenza 21 - It's a little stiff - Does it need breaking in?

Hey Guys,

So I just received my first Sebenza (small Sebenza 21 - new) and the action is a little stiff. This is my first Sebenza so I didn't really know what to expect. I took the knife apart, and re lubbed it with new Chris reeve flourinated grease and it didn't really make a difference. The knife is incredible, I love it, but I just wanted to see if some Sebenza's need breaking in when they are new so the washers can naturally polish themselves during normal use during this break in time. I actually prefer a stiff action but it seems like the action is just a bit too stiff. Thank in advance for the replies.

How stiff is it? Sebenzas aren't made to be flicked. The design of the knife is that you tighten the pivot all the way tight and the action is set. The thumb stud takes a little getting used to. It has been my edc almost exclusively since I got it several years ago. Mine is a large 21.

They do need some time to loosen up. The lock bar tension on these knives will always add a little stiffness to the action, but once it is broken in the blade will fall freely if there is no tension on it.

I hear people talk about how sebenza's are as smooth as glass and this definately isn't. It's not stiff to where I have trouble opening up the knife but enough to be curious about. I don't flick my knives either nor will I with my sebenza. Like I said in my post, I actually prefer stiffer actions but this one seems a little too stiff. I just wondered if some sebenza's require a break in period.

Thanks for this. I assumed it just needed a little break in period by using it normally by opening it and closing it and so on.
Thanks again.
