hey, I was under the impression that Sebenzas came with a polished edge, kind of like how Microtechs used to be a few years ago. I mean, polished to the point that it looks like a thin strip of a mirror. Mine looks like a regular edge (maybe a little finer), but definitely not polished. Do all Sebenzas come this way now?

Yep. If you want a polished edge you need to get a Edge Pro sharpener and use the polishing tape. I've been agonizing over the purchase of one but I haven't taken the plunge but I suppose I will someday.

so you mean they come this way NOW, but USED to come with a polished edge right? BTW, you don't neccessarily need an Edge Pro to get a mirror edge, I can do it without one. I was just wondering if my Sebbie was defective or something.

A lot has to do with the new steel. S30V is unable to take a mirror finish, and a lot of makers have expressed their difficulty in obtaining much of a finish at all. The old steels Reeve used, ATS34 and BG42 both took a mirror finish quite easily. I have an older ATS34 Large Sebenza and it has the scariest sharp, mirror finished edge.

:( Tell me about it. I tried, but my Wife is set and determined to bring me to some formal Army Birthday Ball. I will bring it to Atlanta for the Blade show though. :)

Jadis,

even though the edge may not seem polished, they are finished on a hard felt wheel loaded with polishing compound for the final edge.

I know what you mean about the "mirror" finish. For me the issue is how well the blade cuts and holds up with use.
