Since joining Bladeforums , I have learned how to put a pretty decent edge on knives. Today I felt like carrying the trusty old LB7 in the back pocket. But first, it needed a bit of a touch up . After a couple of minutes on a diamond stone and ceramic sticks , it was time to test. Way sharp! I speculate my sharpest blade to date.

It felt good carrying her to.

I agree Dip. the LB7 is one of the best knives ever. i have about 20, all from ebay, many are used, but all work perfectly, tight lock-up and no play.
i too have learned to sharpen since joining BF and it is really satisfying to put a super edge on an older knife you really like.

Enough already. All this talk here about sticks n' stones, honin' and stroppin' has this novice feeling like the odd man out. Any recommendations on where I can locate a "knife sharpenin' fer dummies" type of resource?

Thanks in advance.

Absolutely ! go to "Maintenance Tinkering & Embellishment" subforum and search "sharpening", etc.
there are hundreds of threads started by us newbies asking how to sharpen and threads by those capable but asking for refinements to their technique.
in every case the "masters of the edge" who hang out there, take time and care to explain and re-explain everything you need to know to become most knowledgeable about all aspects of sharpening including how different steels, various cutting applications, etc., require subtle alterations in method.
of course, then you must apply this knowledge and practise, but the learning curve is surprisingly steep and the satisfaction most gratifying.
