I've sent my SOG Powerlock, and the Spyderco Chinook to Normark to have them sheathed.
Well, Normark is currently swamped with a huge order from one of the well known knife makers, so the turn around time went to hell. Despite that, he turned out very nice stuff.
I've told him that the problem I've with the Chinook is that it sags, while I didn't quite like Nylon (condura) sheath that Ron@SOG had so kindly send for free (the Nylon keep fraying). And also I've told him that I prefer horizontal carry because otherwise they'd jab right into my ribs - I'm not that tall.
Anyways, they came back, and the sheaths fit very well. You can see the outline of both the Powerlock and the chinook on the sheaht (and the Salsa neck sheath that I ordered on the side), and I love the Chinook sheath design. When worn horizontally for a right hander, it has a kind of a "top breaking" groove on the top, allowing you to draw the knife very easily in a smooth up and out motion. It goes back just as easily, you just put it back in horizontally, and it will stay there.
The only nickpicking is that the belt loop on the Powerlock is a bit tight, so right now I couldn't quite get it to slip the belt in when I change the clip from horizontal to vertical, but what the heck, I prefer horizontal belt carry anyways.
They're definately great sheaths, but you have to be ready for the wait. I've heard before that Normark was going to close off from custom orders for a while because of the big order that he's dealing with right right now, but apparenly he didn't seem to do that. So those of you who are waiting, you just have to have patience.

Hi Calyth...

Thank you very much for a Great review..
I'm pleased that you like the design for the Chinook and the Powerlock...

Horizontal is a real nice way to carry for a multitool.. I suspect you are learning that now..

I'll take care of the belt loop issue for you no problem...

As far as being backlogged...

I'm only slightly backlogged now, and have completed the other projects with Simonich Midtech and some other prototype work I've been involved in...

The majority of backlog was caused by some type of flu bug that I couldn't get rid of. That has also passed...

So other than some privately contracted military work on some Busse's I'm good to go and back in the swing of things..

I appreciate you hanging in there with me, Thanks

Eric....

been carrying my rigs since I got them this last week... normal carry is the salsa rig on my neck and my fly WIB... work carry is fly on neck, and salsa right/rear pocket. Spare rig goes in my pocket when I'm not wearing it.

Was working out details for the next rig, started shortly after I mailed out the last set... He *thinks* he'll be caught up by month end, and after having my knife sent from texas about the end of the month(when the MO is recieved), he'll ne able to give a normal turnaround time for a belt rig. I'm shipping a spare belt(I only have 3 of them the same) to avoid any problems with fit.

VW: I never thought of sending in a belt. I personally would want a good leather belt that would hold up well with even more tools ;) This one is fairing ok.
Eric,
The belt loop only gets block when I put it in horizontal or diagonal carry, so it's just the nuts that are blocking the belt.

Hey Calyth...

Ahh I see....We can fix that..
Man you must have one thick a$$ed belt. Those are set up to be used with a renforced Instructors belt...

You do realize that the rig is suppose to be snug on the belt, and not easily moved around Eh! ??. The more stable it is on the belt, the quicker and cleaner your draws will be..

Calyth or Normark

Is it possible to get a picture of the Chinook sheath posted? I have a Lil' Temperance and the idea of a horizontal carry is very appealing. Do you think this design would work for the Lil' Temp?

Thanks
