Having time to kill during the weekend,. I decided to make me a new shop knife for 2007. I choose to make it a stick tang just to do something different from my usual work and keep weight down as much as possible.
It has a 3 1/8" long 5160 steel blade (made from a VW Beetle spring, slightly under 1/8" in thickness), wich I polished only on the flat ground areas, leaving the top and ricasso with the original texture, and a maple handle wich originally was much bigger, from a project I never finished. As a bolster, I used a small brown spacer that matched very well the handle color after it was finished. The idea as I said was to keep this one as light as possible and at under 2 ounces I think I reached my objective.
Considering that I did not know exactly what I would end up with when I started, I am very happy with the result. Now, I better make a sheath for it.

Nice little chore-buster there , that knife looks very user friendly. Also like the 'case hardened' look you left on it :)

clean lines overall. i also like the partial polishing job. looks useful. hard to believe its 2oz!
nice work.

Thanks for your comments, buddies.
I liked his experience and right now am working on a batch of five similar knives except for the handle that instead of maple is imbuia root with a super nice figure.
Klov, I also could not believe it ended up so light. The next ones should be slightly over the 2 ounces mark due to the denser wood.

Here is a pic of her sisters, along with a bigger skinner.
The darker wood is imbuia root, while the yellow colored one is cherry wood and the skinner handle is tobacco ipê.
I´ll be finishing one a day during this week.
